Elephant in the room is an English-language metaphorical idiom for an obvious problem or risk no one wants to discuss, or a condition of groupthink no one wants to challenge.
It is based on the idea/thought that something as conspicuous as an elephant can appear to be overlooked in codified social interactions and that the sociology/psychology of repression also operates on the macro scale.

The elephant would have deserved to be a little bigger, at least as high as the piece of furniture behind it.
No. It is a pigmy elephant. A regular elephant would never fit in the space between the table and the cupboard. How can you tell that an elephant has been in your fridge?
I think your work might really come to life if you add a little shadow (from elephant) on the table. I've searched for the real 'elephant in the room' but couldn't find it.
Good find on the sources of the room and girl, love them!
Thanks for your help Rob
