Sources for the "visible" book pages were transformed into perspective. The transform tool and puppet warp were used in this process.
Blending accomplished by layer masking, clone stamp tool, and the blur tool/filter.

Look at the shadow of the bull's horn...that clearly establishes the light source, which would give you the angles of the other shadows. Good idea otherwise.
I took my cues for the shadows based on the sources used (look at bull source and background source pictures.) Which shadow is disturbing you?
Great job author, shadows do not bother me at all. On the contrary they work OK for me. Shadows can't be perfect since we work with different sources.
Only minor thing you could improve IMHO is the saturated areas on the book, should be a few minutes work.

Great image! Nice work on the book. Is the "cock" supposed to be behind the shadow of the book? If not, the whole right side of it should be brighter. It will also pop from the darker book. Good Luck.
