Butterfly From Axe - created by BWR

Butterfly From Axe
Favs: 0SBS: 50Hi-resRank: 1/2Score: 66.5% (37)8288 views

Check out the SBS to see how this was made. All source. Butterfly's wings are made from the axe head, warped, with some color brushing. Butterfly's body is totally made from wooden axe handle with some brushing. Background is the source image, which was blurred, and some Bokeh painted in. Made the bush from the source's grass. I just discovered that 50 is the maximum amount for the SBS.

Wonderful work, it's very pretty... I want one to add to my collection. Great sbs, I didn't know there was a limit... but then this is the first sbs I've seen with 50 steps.

author says:

TY MM... or should I say "Madame Butterfly"? The SBS was 56 steps. When I tried to upload the 51st, it said something about the limit being reached. I still had a few more steps on how the fence post was made, but those weren't really necessary, so I condensed it to 50 steps. I wanted to show how the axe/post was "rounded off" on the edges. If you look at the top of the post it looks flat, but the sides look sort of rounded is what I am talking about.

Great job!
You could add the final steps as an animated gif in the final step. Not necessary, just a suggestion

It is a nice image but technically the definition of "still life"- One of the principal genres (subject types) of Western art – essentially, the subject matter of a still life painting or sculpture is anything that does not move or is dead or composed of inanimate objects. A butterfly is a living animated creature.(I'm not sure if you meant the turtle to appear alive or not.)

author says:

Thanks Spaceranger. I was hesitant to use the butterfly, but I liked it, and put it. I appreciate your definition of "still life". I took the butterfly out. The turtle is a ceramic table decoration only.

Fountain of Youth - created by skyangel

Fountain of Youth
Favs: 3SBS: n/aHi-resRank: 2/2Score: 55.8% (30)12833 views

Besides the sources used, I used only photoshop brushes to paint in the water and splashes on the fountain.I used sqirlz program to create the pond ripples. http://www.xiberpix.net/SqirlzReflect.html.
There are 80 frames in this animation.
The quality seems poor, I think because I lowered the settings to make the file approx 5mb.
How do some of you manage to get 150 frames in an animation and still end up with a final file of approx 5 mb?
This is the first animation I have ever done in photoshop so any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated. (5 years and 1125 days ago)

The perspective of the small fountain doesn't match that of the larger one.

author says:

It would be very helpful if you had some tips on how to match perspective properly but thanks for your observation.

Scaling would work to change the size of the ellipses.

(5 years and 1124 days ago)

The small fountain appears to be tilting towards us because the ellipses are too open. See this link for tips about ellipses in perspective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMRhuUQREMQ

Nice work, a lot of effort.

author says:

Thank you. I did each frame individually and it took ages, but I am still not 100% happy with the end result.

lchappell says:

Did you use the add-on and set your perspective in Photoshop, or spin it on the "Squid" site?

(5 years and 1124 days ago)

author says:

I had to spin it on the site because my version of photoshop is not compatible with the add on.

glad that you got your entry in.. you did a great job. think you can teach me a thing or 4

author says:

I doubt it. I hardly know what I am doing yet when it comes to making animations in photoshop. Just fumbling my way through whatever tutorials I manage to find.
Its a fun learning experience though.

you and me both

author says:

I find it hard to believe that you are beginner at animation. If these are a sample what you start with, you will only improve. You have set a very high standard.
