thank goodness for cosplayers, or else i wouldn't have had the sources to do this.
Check sbs for background source image taken from my own stock.
Considering the images i used are not actually of the real batman and joker, i don't see any copyright infringement..and all the sources were up for creative commons.

I'm sure there are a few things i could fix, and would like constructive critiques to help me improve the image. Other than that, i really enjoyed making this one. (5 years and 3290 days ago)

Source 1 (batman) doe's not work..

author says:

thanks for the heads up. link is fixed now.

avatar freejay
freejay says:

Looks great ....the batman source seems ok.... but unfortunately the only problem is that the Joker source has already been manipulated by Sabbath photography who posted it on Flickr.

author says:

Aside from the frame (which seems to be on a lot of stock photos) how else was it manipulated? The color and levels get adjusted on A LOT of stocks, so can't tell me that. And I am just trying to clear it up, no offense meant.

avatar freejay
freejay says:

The author comments its a noise experiment.....not just the color and levels.

author says:

Thanks.
After much consideration and searching for another suitable source, I haven't found anything worth using for the joker. And now that this has been pulled, I likely won't be fixing that issue.
Adding noise to a photo in photo contests isn't considered "manipulation" as long as its applied to the whole image, yet using a source in a chop that has noise added to it is considered a premanipulated source. And more funny, but I had to take all the noise out tomake it half decent in the chop. It really doesn't make sense.

author says:

CHECK SBS for update on source of the JOker... i did correspond with sabbath photography, and found how they did the source.

adding noise is not a manipulation in the rules of the photography side of pxl, and there fore shouldn't be seen as manipulation when it comes to sources for chops. it is part of post processing, not manipulation.

avatar arca
arca says:

Well done Author!

Moderator says:

Rules allow minor adjustments of color to a source image. Noise is considered a manipulation because pixels are altered in the process. Since the noise adjustment was the only change made it is considered a small adjustment and it has been decided to be acceptable for this application.
Images are reviewed individually to determine the level of manipulation, every effort is made to be fair in these evaluations. If you have a doubt about a source choice you can ask a moderator before posting your entry.

Not so good to create Sci-Fi creatures, but I love the Sci-Fi scenes, so I came out with this idea. Thanks to mqtrf for the pic of the rocks. The rest is imagination and hard work.

I used the source image to create the buildings.

UPDATE: Changes were made, due to suggestions. Made the rocks, background lighter to be seen. Flipped source image. As for the light source...this can be everywhere. There are moons, suns, or simple stars that reflect light from different directions. Just close your eyes and see. (5 years and 3299 days ago)

Too dark. It's very difficult to see all the effort you put into the background.
Also your light source is inconsistent. Something is shining on top of the dome, but on the side of the light house, yet not at all on the hard to discern rocks. Yet the source metal image is lit from the opposite side on the ground, and is throwing off a shadow in the direction of its light source...consistency is as important as making your image light enough to be seen.

author says:

Thanks so much MossyB. I did not realize that my image was that dark, it is my monitor, that sends me the wrong brightness... I made the rocks/background lighter, as for the source metal image, I flipped it. Hope the image looks better now.

avatar pearlie
pearlie says:

Cool image, author, I like your buildings, the dome and use of the source on the other elements. However, the huge piece of the source looks like it was just kind of put into the image, and yes, the shadow is off. (They are so tricky and difficult to get, I know!) See the softness of the shadow from the rocks, and how it's very light - try to match that with the source's shadow - very light and blurred. Also, to 'ground' it, try erasing part of the lower side with a soft eraser, and it will look partially submerged in the sand. As far as the darkness now, it has a nice sci-fi feel.

avatar MossyB
MossyB says:

Better, but still too dark just right of the light house and just right of the source image. But overall it's MUCH easier to "read" and appreciate. The domed city especially looks good.

author says:

Pearlie, I gave the shadow a softer look, and sunked the metal source image a little into the sand.

MossyB: I lightened the right side of the lighthouse, just a little. I think it looks nicer. Thanks again.

I did not see this before but it looks great on my monitor now, lighting is dramatic and no longer too dark... a complex scene and difficult image to create. Good work!

Cowtican City - created by hsbee

Cowtican City

My version of Catholic Cowtican City.

A statue of late Pope Cowpaul II. And yeah, Jesus took the form of a cow too...

No religious offense intended.

For those critics who might say that cows have hoofs and not fingers, in this world, cows have evolved to have hands and fingers enabling them to dominate the world. I believe that no animal can dominate the earth if it did not have limbs with fingers or claws...

C&C are welcome..

Thanks to visserr for source image. (5 years and 3375 days ago)

i like your take on the "evolution" of a cow. at least this gives some background into why some of these cows are in entirely "unnatural" positions. the entire time this contest has been up, i keep thinking HOW can these cows be living in any "human" conditions if there were NO humans, like the contest description says.

however, i do think Catholic church would have to be changed...to "Calf-lick" because its funnier.
