Sorry it's so late, It's my first submission on this site. Hope you like it!!
Here's an overfiew of what I did:
-Create the shapes and bring a cutout of the fur from the horse over the shape
-Cut the fur to fit the shape
-Filter>Distort>Spherize on the fur.
-Repeat and adjust as necessary :P

Nice distortion.. realistic outcome. Good job.
It's convincing but a little too simple I think. Perhaps you could not crop it so close and maybe put a look of fear on the horse. Just a suggestion.

Thank you for the advices! I don't know if only I noticed that, but I really think it's a bear reflected on horse's eye, when zoomed in... Imagination???

Little girl got lost in the woods and was taken hostage by the bear. All Russian folk tale is here: http://russian-crafts.com/tales/masha.html
I've extended the story: Bear ate some of the pie. And in this illustration Masha is very upset telling: Didn't I tell you not to stop, and not to eat those pies?! Age of the girl: of course she is too little, but then it is explains why pies came out so harmful. :D Picture of a girl is my own, she is granddaugter of my husband. I LOVE Russian faerie tales! I wrote a faerie tale of my own based on elements that I found in Russian tales. This one was lovely.
the little girl is much brighter than the rest of the image but other than that it looks nice
