How about trying to use dodge tool on fin and tail to make it lighter? The source you used has a dark background, and the image you did is light... and you know, those golden fish have almost see-through fins and tails!

Barnacle, I know it's hard to work on fur... So, I do this way: when image has fur, hair, soft fabric, I use soft eraser, or when masking, soft brush. That's it...
