Let me complete a long list of credits whom I wold love to give, even though they didn't asked for it. Staring with ReevesStudio, thanks to that user for providing us that lovely Castle. Then thanks to amorphisss for those rain streaks he provided, and that user too belongs to Deviant art. Thanks to JavierZhX for those lovely cloud brushes behind the castle. Thanks to Obsidian Dawn for water splatter brushes which are used over our dragon and lastly I would thank redheadstock of Deviant art for those Ray brushes. (5 years and 3177 days ago)

The flames are very dim. Fire is quite bright at night.

avatar gornats
gornats says:

interesting chop - i agree about the flames , (not emanating light) and the castle is in too much contrast so is not merging very good with the bridge

avatar arca
arca says:

Interesting work and I like your idea ... agree with the fellows above ... I also might suggest a few less stars and perhaps more variation in size. If you are using PS you can adjust the Scattering of your brush and the variation of size to get a more Star like look. If you need help just PM me.

author says:

Thanks for the advise, I agree with them

I tried to fix the contrast, still not sure the bridge works just yet

avatar gornats
gornats says:

much better now.... flames in the "eyes" of the castle look identical maybe a tiny liquify fix to make it more realistic

author says:

Thanks gornats - know of any good tutorials for the liquify?

try this one , but for me the best tutorial is experimenting , just give it a go and see what will turn out

This is my first photoshopped image for this website so I'll do my best to be thorough. There were 3 images used to produce final image and I took the 2 other images myself, not the mushrooms. I didn't how detailed the step be step should be so I don't have the images between the first and final saved. (5 years and 3271 days ago)

. Any help anyone could offer to help me understand how to do a step by step if you use your own photos and they aren't online.

The Tempest - created by arca

The Tempest
Favs: 16SBS: 22Hi-resRank: 1/12Score: 64.3% (35)19465 views

He had no choice, his magic had been outlawed and he had been banished from the Castle. As the blizzard raged about him the sorrow at leaving his home and family was overwhelming. Not knowing or caring where he could go or what his future might bring, he hung his head, weary beyond words; and his journey had only just begun.

His staff would sustain him, giving warmth and light but even it's magic could not diminish his sorrow or the tempest in his soul.

Thank you to AilinStock for the Wizard
Thank you to TsaalyoStock for the base of the Wizard's Staff

Castle, Sky and Eagle head on Wizards staff are my own photo's. See SBS

EDIT: Replaced staff and added my own image for top of it. Added light coiled around staff. Lightened Wizard and worked on lighting for him (darkened right side - lightened left) (5 years and 3278 days ago)

Very nice effects with the snow! Looks pretty windy
The building in the back has a strong light coming from the left, the wizard has light coming from the right top (flipping the wizard would take care of that).
The light of the staff looks unrealistic, the glow is on the snow that is far behind him. There should only be a glow on the snowflakes surrounding the staff. Hard to explain Gl!

author says:

Thanks Ressiv.

I have changed the lighting on the wizard (darkened the right side a bit) and softened the glow of the staff (not too much as it is a Magic staff). I do not want to flip him as it would change the composition.

I am not too sure that the lighting is off that much as the castle is quite high and there are a lot of clouds. The lighting can be quite different on both subject because of that .

The foreground figure is pretty indistinct. Otherwise this is a lovely moody image.

author says:

Hey Bob ...thank for the comment/critique ...I sort of wanted him like that but after looking at the image on my work computer (darker screen) I lightened him a bit. Hopefully he stands out a little more now.
Thanks!

@greymval LOTR - what's that

(I have only read the books 10 times or more) but then I like that genre of fiction. Only thing that comes close is SF.
