Hi!
I hope you like my new entry! :D
I always wanted to do something with a sea monster, in this case a sea tortoise but hey, they sure do look like sea monsters..

Well ALLOT of layers, cutting out using the pen tool, lighting and shading, masking sure came in handy :) and at the end some nice tweaks..

Please leave a comment saying what you think :) And I do appreciate critique so keep them coming! :)

Cheers. (5 years and 3170 days ago)

Nice imagination and colors....not sure about the light source as its coming from behind them in the background between the clouds.

avatar pixelkid
pixelkid says:

Nice image...agree with MnMCarta and freejay about great use of color over entire image. Perhaps you could bring the front end of reflection of boat to meet the boat edge. In fact, the reflection probably would butt up against the edge of the boat and not have any space of water without reflection. Does that make sense? Also, maybe have the fishing pole cast a shadow on the sea creature's head. I'm not nitpicking here...it's a great image. Just thought these things might help. Great job, author!

I'm not interested in an argument...but I will say if the light source is from the back, then the boy's chest and viewer's side of the turtle's head wouldn't be so bright. What's creating such brightness on those parts? I think what you're going for is to be able to see everything. The way the light source is now...truthfully they would be more like silhouettes.

author says:

Thank yo very much for the advice pixelkid! I'll see what i can do with it One thing you said about the shadow of the rod on the turtles head, since the light source is coming from the back as you can see? I'm not sure about the shadow of the rod being formed on the turtle, but hey give me some argument as to why your statement is true Thanks again

avatar arca

Lovely concept, great mood image!

Lighting is a tricky; I think it is possible to have 2 light sources and one of them can be out of the picture and therefore casting light on the boy, boat and turtle head (in that case there would be a slight shadow on the turtle head from the rod and the lighting could be a bit more consistent for the turtle and the boy). Just a thought as I know it is too late to change anything.

You have done a lovely job on the whole and as I said at the beginning, truly lovely concept and mood!

The breast area is a bit skewed to her left side, but otherwise, this is quite lovely!

author says:

hi thanks for noticing...i just make some fixes...hope breast looks ok now???also added sbs.

avatar MossyB
MossyB says:

The "cleavage center" between the breasts is still off-center. It should be matching up with the center of her clavicle above it.
It is also quite flat looking. Since breasts are spherical and extend out from the body, you need some values of shading beneath to give the illusion of form and depth.

avatar erathion
erathion says:

great drawings...best of luck

author says:

hi thanks to all the comments,it'll help me improved...i will make fixes on the breast area try to make it more look larger though i'm flat chested hihi...kidding!!!

Excellent command of the fantasy genre.. every image you make makes me think of fairy tales and story books.

Edit: My only suggestion would be to make the model's shadow a little lighter, it seems very dark at the moment (or maybe blur it more?) If not i'd darken up the shadow the horse is casting.

author says:

@ Ponti - Thank you for the critique. I was really unsure how dark to make her shadow and was hoping someone would comment. I have made some changes - lightened the models shadow and darkened the horse a bit. I think it looks better now. Thanks for the help, your comment was very much appreciated

avatar CMYK46
CMYK46 says:

I realize this is surrealism, so all bets are off, but the figure doesn't match the scale of the horse. All else is well done!

author says:

Thanks CMYK
I did check here http://figure-drawings.com/How-to-Draw-Proportions-3.html, as she is curled up I based the proportions on the size of her head (within reason as it is a fantasy/surreal image as you noted). I added a step to the SBS to show what I did ...Check it out and let me know what you think?

This is amazing entry author, really really amazing...and black and white mood is perfect for this...your details are perfect...love the lucid feel of movement on horse tail and mane...And as for the size of the horse and the model...don't worry author...this is the Nahar horse of the Valar god Oromë and he is huge...on his back is Arien the maiden whom the Valar chose from among the Maiar to guide the vessel of the Sun...through clouds and sky Nahar take Arien to the Sun...so for that quest horse have to be huge...

author says:

erathion: If there was a super, double gold thumbs up it would be yours! What a wonderful story! I had forgotten about Nahar (LOTR... right?) Thank you so much for sharing your vision of my vision (I will have to steal the story for future use)!

avatar Floortje1973

A whole story in a picture.. Love it, great execution, amazing hair. I thought the size of the horse's back was to big, but it didn't bother me one bit, it fits the purpose of this image very well.. I even think when the horse was the "right" size it would have not looked as surreal as it did and did not have the ability to mesmerize, what it sure does now.. Great work author and good luck!

Quite funny designs and ditto descriptions . Some supernitpicks though: I might be wrong but I think that "my" 25 PXLS is a bit bigger than the rest. Not a superproblem, but since the others have a same font size, I'd say that 25 pxls should have that size too. And -sorry for the superdupernitpick- it's depicting instead of dipicting.
Good luck!
