Welcome to Pxleyes! Very nice and dramatic work for the first entry; I really like the mood and the colors you used here. GL!

avatar lolu
lolu says:

very clever and nice work, love the mood. may be you can put more shadow on the left birds or make it less white . Good luck author

avatar langstrum
langstrum says:

Great first entry! The blending is almost perfect, the low range or color works well on the mood and the idea is creative. Your style brings the fresh air to the competition and I see the potential in you work. I have few suggestions about the content of that image: since you want to show that she wants to fly, the spatial feel on the image is very important. All these birds are going to fly away or just flied not far from her. If you could add some other birds with different sizes, in different place of the DOF (depth of field), the topic will be emphasized more. Because she wears the dark clothes, it's better to make the brighter background. In your case, it's still okay because she's distinguishable, but if there are few bright clouds in front of her (background), this will be better.
One more thing maybe you've already known or not. The SBS is mandatory in the case of the source contest like this one, but in the theme contest without given source, the SBS is not mandatory, it's up to authors.
Wish you the best of luck with this entry, very well done, keep it up!

author says:

Thanks guys
@langstrum: Ya the extra birds idea is really good. The BG was brighter....but I reduced the brightness to make the ground look far above the valley. And I have submitted the SBS
Thanks for all suggestion and wishes I will try to update if possible.

It may be "only the pidgeon"; but it's an "only" well blended, well used. I love the colors for background, making the woman popping up. Mood is also wonderful, like every work that you do, Mr. Mood. The title is very appropriated too.

avatar CMYK46
CMYK46 says:

Sorry, not enough meaningful use of the source...that could easily be a bird from anywhere. Then the source wouldn't matter.

Thanks to Vangel_PL for the fly and demordian for the hands (Notified)

Mostly an exercise in getting the fly into the amber

Masking the amber and fly then several layers added with multiple and overlay blending modes and adjustment layers using brightness and contrast, Hands enlarged and the drop shadow added and masked for the amber (5 years and 3311 days ago)

The main focus of the image is really excellent.. A very realistic outcome. I agree with you author that the background should be changed, but again, the fly in the amber looks fantastic.

Created from all my own images and a little bit of in PS painting. See SBS. (5 years and 3333 days ago)

avatar artgirl1935

This is such a beautiful image and makes me feel like I am up there with that bird. Bird could maybe use some motion blur so that it doesn't seem to be motionless. Your SBS is SOOOO outstanding. Would like to know what program you were using. My Adobe 6 doesn't seem to have all the options you described. High score!! GL

author says:

Artgirl ...I am working in CS5. What options doesn't 6 have? I used to work in PS6 and may be able to suggest alternate ways to do the same thing ... PM me if you want

Re Wing Blur - I know what you mean. I did try that when I was first working on the picture but it never looked quite right. I could perhaps blur the wings a bit? I did have the teardrop hanging more straight down originally but thought that having it flowing backwards helped to give the sense of motion.

avatar hereisanoop

Once again.., beautiful job

avatar pingenvy

I was SO looking for a coconut in the bubble. My first thought was, "Is it an African swallow or a European swallow".
Back to the point, its painterly and VERY nice!

avatar lchappell
lchappell says:

very pretty, I like attention to detail on your mountains

author says:

Pingenvy ... I am pretty sure it is a North American Wood Swallow but I changed the colour to match the image better...it was originally; a great iridescent blue on the back and lower part of the wings, white belly and brown/gray everywhere else ... tee hee, sneaky me! Oh and sorrry about the coconut ... I will consider it if I do a revised edition someday
