Nammu, Primeval Goddess of the Sea - created by musicj19

Nammu, Primeval Goddess of the Sea
Favs: 1SBS: n/aHi-resRank: 2/7Score: 67.8% (33)27031 views

In Sumerian mythology, Nammu was the primeval sea that gave birth to An (heaven) and Ki (earth) and the first gods, representing the Apsu, the fresh water ocean that the Sumerians believed lay beneath the earth, the source of life-giving water and fertility. (5 years and 2530 days ago)

Good idea. Mountains need shadows, the figure could use more defined shadows, if not a reflection. Edges of the figure & globe could use some subtle blurring. I'm not sure about the texture on the model, but if you like it, that's your call.
PS: Good find on the mythology theme.

author says:

Thanks for the compliments and the suggestions. I added some shadowing for the mountains and also slightly softened the edges of the sphere and model. I don't believe that you would find more defined shadows on such turbulent waters as these. It was a specific choice I made not to have them defined so they looked more natural. At least that's how I see it. The choice of texture was to make her look like she was made partly of water and also so it just wasn't a nude woman on water. Nammu was part of the sea and that's what I wanted to portray.

CMYK46 says:

I still don't see shadows of the mountains on the water. The rest is better.

(5 years and 2530 days ago)

author says:

Hopefully they are a bit more defined now.

The face with chains look nice, though the texture also makes it a bit flat. You may want to add some highlights here and there so the face gets more volume (or darken here and there of course). I wouldnt mind to see the flames a bit more visible and recognizable. Good luck!

author says:

Thank you wazowski for your feedback, i made some adjustments with the fire and the colors, and i think it looks way better now

PLEASE SEE HIRES VERSION!!!!

I love your entry but it needs one more adjusting, the planet in source 8 is someone elses photoshop work and you cant use it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/imaginedreality/170835601/in/photostream
also wheres the uncut photo of the girl? the on in the steps already has it cut.

I do love this image, the colors and the composition, the subject. its just fantastic great work and yes please do see this in highres its definately worth it.

author says:

OH THANKS ELADINE!!! I didn't even notice that, I'll get on replacing that planet right away! Also, I'll have to dig up the original photo too, I didn't save it unedited in the file I worked on. I may have to go back to the raw file and redevelop one.

And thanks Nator I might mess around with that a bit

avatar Eladine
Eladine says:

I can just see this in poster format or in the postcard racks... you know those postcards with the special metalic printing? this would be so nice with that. beautiful work.

author says:

OH YES!! I know exactly what you mean about the metallic printing, that would be SO AWESOME!
Thanks again for your help! I ended up using the same moon picture used for the middle planets, to remake the one in the corner. I think it looks much better now anyway
Also I added the original pic to my SBS.

@ Nator, good suggestion, I made her a bit more "glowy" and added some more smoke and little glowing particles!
