Everything has definitely gone wrong. The idea is good but you need to work on your cutting out, color matching, and blending images to make them look like they are part of the same picture instead of looking like a collage of random pictures put together.
The lion has a missing foot for a start. You either need to add a foot or place something like a shrub over that straight line to hide the fact that the foot is missing.

Awesome blending and compression bringing the trio together. SOOPA SMOOTH!!!

Great idea...might be good to give the edges around the face a bit of blur. GL author.

Nice idea, perhaps you still have time too soften the masking of the fur around the face...(try a layer mask soft brush.) Maybe a fine smudge bush on the fur line at the face also.

I had troubles uploading my entry, and consider myself lucky to have gotten it online!
I was so wrought over the fur on the outside and the background, I TOTALLY forgot to soften the edges around the face...Every entry carries its learning experience.

The hat's blurred compared to the source pic, and IMO the "hair" would look better if all the strands ended in points like those at left. Love the image, though.

yes, the hat did blur a bit when doing some liquify to make it fit on the head better. and then when i did burning to darken it (i didn't like the greyish "noise" from the source) it did seem to blur a bit more...i'll see if i can't fix that up a bit.
And the hair!!! oh goodness...considering how many peices of "cord" i had to use to make that hair, i'm not suprised i didn't work on the points more. again, something to work on.

if i get it done in time, i'll update it.

This is a unique idea but the resolutions between the two images are very different. Might even help to the the background more cartoon.
