The watercolor aspect is obvious with an unusually somber (not pastel!) color palette that makes the image unique. But I don't really see the gyotaku which apparently is just a largely monochromatic rubbing of the fish's surface to yield a pretty flat kind of superficial X-ray of the fish (I'm reminded of fossils) without the addition of any other elements (such as seaweed, for example).

author says:

you are right, most gyotaku are monochromatic, like a stamp and very rarely seaweed is added to gyotakus...However, the source picture didn't have enough detail (i.e. scales) to achieve that fine pattern. My mother has a gyotaku at home which is more like a watercolor image, that is why I tried it this way. Her picture was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the source. OR maybe I am just lacking skill Thanks for the comment though, it is well appreciated!

"Less is more" applies not only to images but to titles and descriptions as well. While a gyotaku may have inspired you, it was TMI [too much information] that distracted from rather than adding to my appreciation of your entry. I would just delete the references to gyotaku.

I don't know anything about gyotaku, but I would hang a print of this up in my living room.

If the writing is your name (watermark) then it must be removed as per the Rules & Guidelines.

author says:

I just replaced the picture but in the contest, the old one appears when I push "publish"....
Since it was a kanji and it is my second name that doesn't appear anywhere in my profile, I thought it was ok.

Quite amusing, except the amusing elements don't really stand out—maybe amp up the contrast on those elements? I think the plants in the pond detract from the amusement [they wouldn't pop up like that after being trapped in the tin IMO] as does the grass on the tin's lid which is not consistent with the notion that the pond is totally artificial. More fundamentally, I'm not sure the fish are the focal point as required by the contest requirements.

I think the can lid might be better off left metallic or with a hint of green reflection, but I love your concept. You could try lowering the opacity and maybe a slight blur.

Various techniques thrown together... and you get..... THIS!!!! enjoy (5 years and 2980 days ago)

Too blurry looking. I also don't understand what makes it a "Japanese painting," as Japanese paintings were generally pictorial narratives done in a highly refined style, with crisp colors and clean, sharp, stylized linework, not blurry people with a "glow" around them...

"Various techniques thrown together" tells us nothing about how you created this image, and makes it seem more of a random "digital doodle," than any type of skilled chop.

avatar Drivenslush

Such a pretty image, I love the glowing.. and the adjustment of the eye is quite well done, good luck author, quite beautiful

KatanazStock, assuming that you're the same person as the one from DA, you'd know that on the front page of your profile you allow people to use the stock outside DA. I cant say anything about the 1st point, but the 2nd one shouldnt be an issue here.
Author, good luck!

EDIT: KS, feel free to define "commerical and/or profitable use", s'il vous plaît

USING OUTSIDE OF DA:
As of 28th of July 08, you now have permission to use our stock OUTSIDE of DeviantART!! This is brilliant news, and I'm sure many of you agree as in the past we'd sadly turned down hundreds of requests.

However, when using our stock outside of DeviantART you MUST include credit and a link back to our direct profile page here on DeviantART.

Note: katanaz`s last visit to deviant art was 28 weeks ago, the real katanaz would have checked thier DA account for notes before writing this garbage!

I will assume that your lack of knowledge about your own rules implies that you are an imposter!.....A fellow pxl member trying to have entries removed to make way for your own perhaps? Well I`m sure the mods will have access to IP address`s & lets hope you haven`t already tried to red flag this image under your own name, whilst using the same uneducated reason for removal...that would be a telling clue wouldnt it?
