Not much of an sbs when there's no commentary and just a single gif step.
There are enough tutorials out there on how to achieve the effect, no need for another explanation. The basics I listed with the animation are common to almost ALL the tutorials, with each one dependent upon the photo selected for adjustment...And those ARE all the steps used. No fancy filtering or drawing overlays. about 4 layers total, mainly merge visible to leave prior layers for retouch if I didn't like the directions burn and dodge were taking...I thought you'd already checked out some tutorials. Surely you must have seen that much!
One thing Mr. Dragan insisted upon when he sold (not free gave) his tutorial to achieve his effect, was a "non-disclosure" of the exact steps. I've found over the years it encourages better experimentation.
This is a Dragan effect contest, not an SBS contest...
Wow, I've been away for a while but I see some artists have gotten nastier in defense of their work, instead of appreciating comments and questions. One thing I learned and appreciate about THIS site in particular: HOW you achieved your effects is almost as important as WHAT effects you achieved. Only a good SBS proves what you did. Smarmy remarks by artists against the importance of SBS may work on other sites, but not this one.
Now, for your entry. This nice effect on this beautiful woman's face would benefit from more vibrant eyes, as seen in many of Dragan's works.
Thank you for the un-asked for lecture, elemare...So glad you came back.
Thanks, it's nice to be back, LOL. And, yes, I thought giving one deserved getting one. Nice update, BTW.

Quite generous of you, considering I wasn't replying to you, and was responding to a comment on MY entry...And BTW, there has been no update on my entry. Perhaps you took the time to notice what was originally posted, rather than creating unasked for responses to comments not directed at you...

thank you!
Nice Job Well done
Fantastic work author...one of the best in the contest for sure...gl
you are flattering me!
I could have bet money that only a guy can see a chicks butt in a gun's wooden handle.
So tell me.. did I lose the bet ?
Great execution & I like that you even framed the image using bits of the source. I would have loved to see her hair made of many thin metal tubes, but on the other hand it would have competed with the butt (LOL) and it would be time consuming as well.
Good chop!
how much you bet?
Lol, she wants to take my money. I was asking if it was you who came up with this idea or a guy around you.
then just admit, that you lost your bet
sometimes everybody sees butts everywhere
Amazing!
thank you! glad you liked it!
Lol. ok I lost . Good luck, author.
good luck to you!
Congrats, nice work

That's so interesting to do the colorization, it's like giving the second life to an old photo.
Thanks to inspyretash-stock for the great vintage portrait, lady Esther Ralston looks gorgeous.
I want to give her a quite modern looking with highlighted hair and some make-ups.
Basically what I've done is exactly the same as this tutorial: http://www.planetphotoshop.com/colorizing-a-grayscale-image.html
The only difference is I used one top layer with overlay blending mode to control the lighting because the BW image neutralizes some parts of the colored image.
I just show in SBS the comparison one by one of the original one and the colorized one, plus the work in progress in animation.
Since it's the vintage photo, I can't have the higher resolution version, but the quality is not that bad. (5 years and 3247 days ago)
Looks like a nice painting, good work. Just curious about the color you chose for the hair but I kinda like it.
The hair color is unique, but the face with the radiant highlights is lovely.
The colors are cool and the effort to match is laudableespecially, eyes wirh dress. Nice source selection. I like the final result. GL
Very very nice work author...Colorization is top notch...Interesting choice to use purple for the hair and the lips...eye coloring is master piece...well done
interesting hair colour choice, but all in all its very good work

Love the eyes!!!

I love these old photo's.. Love how she looks, very nice work author!
you managed to keep the softness of the original photo and really update it with colors. imagine what the woman in the picture would say to see that now??
and interesting choice of hair indeed. I just love how her eyes really pop in this though. Good Luck author!

The angle of the shoulder is wonky in relation to her head, and her face is too bright for the light source behind her (notice the shadow is in front of her face...)
Your source link does not work.
Really........... beautiful it is...........
corrected source link. Thanks for letting me know.
Great ps work
Nice idea with shadow and subject. Perhaps lower her left shoulder a bit and make it less 'broad' looking. This might help the overall look.
