There is a distracting "leaf" above her head to the left (as viewed) that is "chopped off," rather than tapered like the rest. Otherwise, this is a truly lovely chop.

avatar alyssadanielle

wonderful color palette! really brings everything together and creates a wonderful composition! good luck author!

avatar aheman
aheman says:

agree with MossyB, the top leaf should be adjusted. suggest make the leaves above her head a little transparent at the edges -- a little like feathers feel, now abit harsh-stiff...

otherwise, perfect

We usually provide a SBS so that people like me won't have to ask: What happened to the source?
Is it only the coat of arms on his shoulder ?

author says:

Sorry for the trouble of not posting an SBS. I am new and fully do not understand all the regulations and normal procedures of this site, and the coat of arms is the noticeable one, the eyes on the angel statue are coins, but is almost unnoticeable after all the tinkering I did, also there was another face in the torch, but all the tinkering made it completely unnoticeable. I always appreciate tips though.

avatar greymval
greymval says:

People here are eager to help once they get what the author intended to do - that's why you can use the description . For ex. I see you have an overall pattern but is hard to understand how did you achieve it. Instead you can make it out of coins. You can experiment with masking the negative so that it looks like your image is made of different coins, stuff like that.

avatar erathion

nice thinking and great title...best of luck author

author says:

Well I'd appreciate all the help I can get. And I completely understand what you are saying and I will start doing that from now on, and for this piece of work, i didn't apply any patterns. First off I spent a couple hours messing with my work, so there are no real clear steps since I kept going back and changing/adding or subtracting. But if you want I can try to go over all the steps I did.

author says:

To clarify on the "patterns", I actually merged all the layers at the end, and duplicated the product a few times and took a gaussian blur to one of them, and i used the twirl and wave distort filter on another layer. Which my original piece of the bottom layer with the blur and distorted layer above the original with the blending modes changed.

I liked the use of light, the color used and experiment result. Nice work. GL

I guess I'm too much of a patriotic prude...The Statue of Liberty??? Couldn't you have just used a skyscraper, or a mountain, or something not quite so symbolic?

avatar CMYK46
CMYK46 says:

Funny, but a bit blown out.

avatar pearlie
pearlie says:

Why did you flop the statue? Not only is that not correct, I don't think it's right. Good idea, but have to agree with MossyB, try to find an image not symbolic to any particular country. I'll give you a chance and will wait to vote, but not too long.

avatar CMYK46
CMYK46 says:

I don't object to the subject matter, but I'd think you would pay attention to light sources. The light on the dog is clearly from upper right (look at tail shadow) and the light on the statue is clearly from upper left.

avatar pearlie

Lady Liberty carries the torch in her right hand. It is the dog that should be flipped.

avatar lchappell

Why don't you choose another image for your dog to urinate on.... poor taste= poor vote

ok ok...i changed it...happy now?

avatar Mikaelbg
Mikaelbg says:

Good god, some people don't have any sense of humor... I didn't see the original picture, but i'm pretty sure it was funny.... you gotta chill out sometimes, y'know.

avatar DanLundberg

Neither the edges of the dog nor its (missing) shadows on the house are realistic. Showing the dog urinating on something more interesting (perhaps Wall Street bankers -- but I still wouldn't know what the dog represents) might be more compelling.

avatar gustimusprime

man i feel sorry for you author, the first picture was cool, it had some comedy in it. it sucks that you got pushed into changing it because of some over pc users. you shouldn't have to sensor your self when you have followed all the rules. keep up the good work

avatar MossyB
MossyB says:

Comedy has nothing to do with it. It's called a modicum of respect. The Statue of Liberty does not deserve such poor taste, and it has NOTHING to do with "humor."

And YES, a good 'chopper SHOULD be able to censor themselves when they are participating in a contest based on popular votes. It doesn't take THAT much effort to be respectful of something that is very symbolic to millions of people.

Thank you, author for changing the image. As a proud American, I appreciate it.

avatar k5683
k5683 says:

that house looks like it could be a house in Switzerland or something. Are you disrespecting little old Swiss people?!!!!! lol
FYI~I'm trying to make a point here.

avatar Mikaelbg
Mikaelbg says:

I’m having a hard time understanding you MossyB. As a Canadian, you could make a chop of a dog pissing on our parliament, on the Olympic stadium or you could even have the CN tower up you’re a$$ and I would never get offended, I would just have a good laugh with you. Proud American = no sense of humor, I guess.

Anyway, i'm out of here

peace and love!

avatar EmiK
EmiK says:

lol, great on a white house too.
Ok I read all the commnets, and now I have to add my two cents. I probably wouldn't think much of it, but there is a reason why for example at my work we are not allowed to talk about 3 things. Sex, religion, and politics. These can be very sensitive subjects to some people, and I have seen arguments started because of them. Author, I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it, because you went out of your way to change it. This is a good reminder for all of us to take it easy, keep it light and have fun.

avatar gustimusprime

why does comedy have nothing to do with it? i liked the image and voted for it because it was funny so comedy can take a big part in the popular vote. and i still dont think that any one should have to censor themselves, if you dont like it, click away and dont vote for it, simple as that

avatar lchappell
lchappell says:

Author YOU did the right thing. Your picture is 100% better as it it now. Your first image was not of this quality, and from a taste point of view it is much nicer. To the others:

In America we have the "liberty" to speak and express our selves as we please, that still does not mean that a good deal of us Americans are not offended at the sight of our national emblems and monuments, being desecrated, purely for humor or artistic expression.
Once again very good changes in all respects.
