Great work author...one minor suggestion,use burn tool or maybe soft selection with black brush to give more spherical look to the ball,now looks a bit flat.Any how,this is fantastic image...Best of luck
I think the sandy ground in the image is a bit distracting.. but the actual subject and sky is fantastic. Really good work, author.

Just scaling , masking and an adjustment layer for each iteration of the ear (5 years and 3542 days ago)
There's no droste effect. I can clearly see where the ear ends.
