Are you made of gold or some harder metal? How much heat can you stand before you melt?

The work was inspired by the movie Terminator 2 in which the T1000 is a metal shape changer. I wanted the end result to look more like melting metal than melting wax. If you have any tips for improvement, please share.

Process: Cut out model. Make new background by painting a new layer with black and overlaying the flames on screen mode. Mask out unwanted bits, desaturate and darken the green bits.
Use some cloned flames for the ground and push them around with the smudge tool, then liquify to make it look like a puddle.
Add some smoke around the flames.
Lighten model as much as possible, use plastic wrap filter, then chrome filter over the plastic wrap. Draw some drop sections over the model freehand, copy and paste them in various places. Use puppet warp, liquify and smudge tools on model parts to increase the melting effect and blend the feet into the ground puddle. Adjust levels and curves. Add colour from the flames. I used two new layers for the colour and blended them using colour and colour burn blend modes. Merge all layers and save. Took the end result into filter forge to add a black frame.
That's it in a nutshell. I played around a lot more than that, trying different effects and ended up scrapping a lot of layers. That is why
I did not make an SBS with pictures. I started trying to make one but I changed my mind because I scrapped and changed too many things in the process. (5 years and 1004 days ago)

I've been in that mood.. but usually some MiraLAX clears that up in a couple of days... I AM JUST KIDDING.. but I couldn't resist.. giggle snort..

Great job all round

author says:

A slushy mood or a hard metal mood? I think Miralax would just make you feel more like sitting down in your own private room or more "sitty". Add an "h" in there next to the s.
I left it out deliberately so as not to offend any tender readers who have not reached adult age yet. Hopefully they are too young to figure it out.

Sad Fly - Melted Butter - created by olseado

This "fly" was created from contest source "butter cup" image. The wings, head, body was created using metal part of the butter cap, and body using glass part of the "butter cup" image, I will add sbs if it is required.
I want to thanks to erix! for melted butter on the plate source (flickr). (5 years and 3339 days ago)

I feel tthe background is a little too empty. Good job with the fly tho.

It's probably matter of opinion about background. Personally (IMO) I think making another metal fly similar to it, sitting next to the original fly would make it far more interesting. But you got a day left.

really an emotional piece. I wonder if you could puddle the dripping more at the base, it's really cool but they look more like tentacles then drippings.. IMHO.. wondering if they should pool more instead of stretching out ward. but I could be wrong good luck

Very well done... perfect on theme.. very grizzly

the drip on the tooth needs some gloss to work, looks too pasted but the image is very well done.. good luck

EDIT: I use the emboss/bevel ..I take the part that needs shine and emboss it to give it a lift and that little white gloss thing.. like on the guys nose.. or you could borrow his nose and shrink and fit.. DON'T RUIN your work.. experiment first and make sure it works.. you can also merge a gradient over the drip and then add a white splotch for the glow... all different ways

or what hsbee said LOL
