great choice of images -- may be a more defined line between the girl and fish would improve this

The fish half is side profile (the top fin away from the viewer), while the woman half is facing upwards to the viewer...The angle just doesn't work, and the blending is very rough, looking like an uneven blur erase. The woman half's skin will need to start turning the color of the fish half (Gradient) before you erase blend it into the fish, and the fish needs to either be a bit more "belly up," or the woman needs to be facing downwards more.

OK Alan2641, I added another water layer on top, and played with the opacity and layer styles, but couldn't get it to look quite right, so I added a few beams with the pen tool, stroked with soft white, and gave them a blue-ish hue. I like it better, so thanks again for the tip!

I would personally get rid of some of the fins, as atomically they aren't needed and if they are they would now be in the wrong place to be doing any good... (back fin for example)

Also, her top garment is morphing into her body?... a little distinction between the two would improve on that

But I'd remove the remaining fin, because it's still in the wrong place.

Very cool idea and work love the colours and mood, my only suggestion would be to flip the front fish (one at the bottom of the image) its upside down at the moment and remove the black edges and change the shadow.
