RED DRAGON!? - created by theovanua

RED DRAGON!?
Favs: 0SBS: n/aHi-resRank: 5/5Score: 48% (0)5960 views

So this is my first submission on this site! I tried to give 'Red Dragon' a Vintage-Toy style (I LOVE VINTAGE EFFECTS!!) because I really like Vintage effects hehehe.

All of the effects, were created using photoshop by me (including the BG) with the exception of the old styled border, which I found from deviantart user 'freak76' (I've linked it as Source 1), thanks for the border freak! Oh and the font is 'Wide Latin' and was already on my PC... Enjoy!!

Some techniques I used consisted of multiple adjustment layers and was achieved mainly by trial and error, though the image looks fairly easy it took quite a long time to get it right (for me anyway). To add an overall old effect I added a lot of noise and blurs to give it an older effect. Also I was influenced mainly by Iceflowstudio's who have multiple great tutorials! For a first entry, ok... however I would use the whole week to make an image for these contests. This is a very talented site and filter works don't seem to get very far in a contest... but that is something we ALL learn in the beginning

Goodluck author, you will get alot of help don't worry

Thanks for the advice

Deception and The Red Balloon - created by pixelkid

Aww...c'mon! Come over here...I wasn't gonna hurt you! Really! All source except for hand noted. See high res for detail. Made revision...no more blurriness. (5 years and 3181 days ago)

WONDERFUL.. just a tad more definition to the tack.. but if you are happy with it.. then it's fine.. I'm just looking at HI RES.. and the blur does take over the image (IMHO).. good luck and great job!!!

avatar arca
arca says:

Really interesting image ... I do agree with Driven on the Tack blur ... but it is only noticeable in High res.

author says:

@Drivenslush and arca: Thanks for your input. I've removed quite a bit of blur now, but am trying to establish depth where the balloon and hand are in focus and the tack being so close to the foreground is slightly blurred. I keep thinking realistically both objects wouldn't be in focus and am trying to keep the balloon and hand the center subject. Does that make sense? I hope so.

avatar MossyB
MossyB says:

Great concept, but the entire image is too blurry, except for the balloon, which is so far back, yet crystal sharp. The fuzzy looking hand next to it just compounds the overall incongruity...Also, if the back end is enclosed, where is that light source on it coming from???

author says:

Thanks MossyB for your observations. I missed the light thing on the elevator bottom. Thanks. I darkened it. Looks better. I removed all the blurriness of the shot. Looks clearer. Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

I appreciate your try of making DOF, sorry it didn't work -instead, making some dust would & should have looked really better.

A really inspiring picture and I had a lot of ideas. But I knew her costume would blend so nicely, one of my step-sister's freinds dancing. I took this picture. (5 years and 3186 days ago)

I put my source in the SBS Guide. It's there. I don't know where else I can put it. I fixed it.

author says:

I will figure it out. Please don't take it out.

author says:

I uploded it and I don't know why when I press source, it says I have no source. How do I upload my sources from my computer? I didn't find ay spec. instructions on it.

avatar MossyB
MossyB says:

The flash you used when you took the picture is too contrasting for this image, since the light source is from the sunset behind her. You might be able to offset it a bit if you very slightly darken the dancer layer.

The edges are a bit too sharp, giving it a "cut and paste" look.

You can't "source" link from your PC, it only uses URL addresses.
