Good idea, but a bit too desaturated.

Actually, I didn't desaturate it at all...I actually INCREASED the yellows and cyans.

It's a jungle, not the middle of a desert...

I've lightened the overall image 5%, for those who may have darker monitor resolutions.

My nontechnical reaction is "blah." In your source pic, the cabin and its immediate environment are brighter/more-attention-grabbing (have a higher dynamic range) than anything in this image. Everything here is uniformly dark with no brighter portion to capture the viewer's attention.

Good chop...maybe make the flag bigger, it's not obvious at first...and the way that dog's looking at him, he may need it!

I made the flag proportional with the squirrel size. My intention was to make a very subtle flag . And it's possible to see how I made the flag at the SBS
