This is my beautiful sister :) I made her this for her birthday (it was actually yesterday but this took longer than I thought it would) I did go to the link on the contest description and scrolled down through all the different images for some inspiration!! I ended up using this one (http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/tutorials-effects/mix-cool-retro-curves-into-your-photographs/) to create a brush and achieve some great effects! Other than the image of my sister, I used no other outside sources. (5 years and 3005 days ago)

avatar Drivenslush

WONDERFUL!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

(PSST! DRAW the background items.. I think some of your sources aren't allowed (illustrations and premanipulations).. don't think will it effect the finished image at all .. Great job)

author says:

hey thanks for the heads up, what source in particular are you talking about? I'll certainly fix them, I don't want this to be taken down! I put far to many hours of work into this for it not to compete

author says:

SORRY EVERYONE! I seem to have used some illustrations in my background that I will need to replace. So if my entry disappears for a while don't be sad, it will most certainly be back!!!
Thanks

avatar Drivenslush

Any thing premanipulated can't be used.. you'll get it, and the Mods should be able to help you as well.. GOOD LUCK!!!

author says:

yeah they took it down once, but I didn't realize they had done it. Thought I just clicked the "publish later" button when I uploaded so i put it back up on accident. So I'm waiting for them to take it back down for me. I'll have time to make new background elements tomorrow

avatar Drivenslush

Don't worry, You'll get the hang of it LOL.. Great work!

avatar pearlie
pearlie says:

Fantasic job, especially on her face! Love the background, too, and I'm sure you'll get that worked out.

author says:

Thanks! everything is all worked out now. Other than a couple textures I created all the background elements right in photoshop, so I no longer have to worry about my sources apparently I need to freshen up on my rules every couple of months!!

avatar Drivenslush

HEHEHEHE!!! NOW It's PERFECT Great Save author!

avatar MossyB
MossyB says:

The textures are still artwork created by others...You can only use "natural" texture images.

author says:

In the mod's message they sent when they took it down they only said to change my other sources, so apparently these ones are ok to use.

author says:

hahaha you were right Mossy! Shortly after I commented back, they took it down, AGAIN! heheh now this image is 100% created in photoshop by me with no use of any sources other than my own picture for a reference, so I think I should be safe now

avatar MossyB
MossyB says:

It's a stronger image now. Great SBS, excellent Pen Tool work. Best of success!

avatar spaceranger

A wonderful gift for your sister, very well done! Everyone has problems with sources at one time or another but you dealt with the situation with good humor and a positive attitude. I agree with MossyB the end result is most excellent!

author says:

Thanks a lot! I have always been a glass half full type of person

avatar passionboy

fantastic work gl author..!!

avatar Drivenslush

I know now why I was bemused by this image.. BRENDA STARR (make sure you use STARR not STAR.. LOL) old comic that I LOVED... .. very awesome finish author.. such a wonderful image

author says:

Hahah oh wow! Totally!! You would have thought I was inspired by her, but I sadly have never heard of that comic till now. Very cool

some lensflares, filters and a font... think you'll have to do better than that author

author says:

ok other time i'll post better than this

avatar Geexman
Geexman says:

The simplicity may not get the vote but I do think the end result is very effective, nice job

avatar MossyB
MossyB says:

Lens flares don't connote "shiny" to me. Light reflections mean shiny... Maybe if the letters had a bit more color for the lens flares to look more like they are "reflecting" a light source it would be more effective.

Also, if you are not using any exterior images, you have to publish an SBS of some sort showing how you created this image. You had to check the box agreeing to do so before you published this...

author says:

thanks Geexman
mossyB: okay so i added a step by step guide so now it's clear for all how to make it

avatar solkee
solkee says:

Sorry author, but I don't see a SBS. That's a requirement for this type of entry.

okay okay i'm gonna add again i mean sBS

This is a howling wolf who is crying at the full moon. Thanks to ForsakeWolf for providing that lovely wolf image. Thanks to midnightstouch for those beautiful tree brushes. And the stars that you see in the background are not brush presets but made by me using the brush scattering settings, so Mr moderater please dont think that they are brushes and ask for source of those stars. Thanks to Falln-Stock for that lovely moon brush. Thanks to redheadstock for those birds brushes. (5 years and 3154 days ago)

I took a pill and escaped from death. (5 years and 3483 days ago)

avatar ponti55
ponti55 says:

I like the idea, but i feel like the whole image could;ve been executed a little better. You could try smaller stars at full opacity, and also try experimenting with different colours and blend modes for the solar flares. Good luck!

author says:

Haha, thanks for help, I'm lucky I saved the psd so I can re-edit it... Thanks again.

avatar DanLundberg

I confess I don't really understand this. I completely agree with ponti55, however. I would also observe that your gray additions to the pill assume that it's a cylindrical sausage when in fact it has a much more interesting shape with a flat band encircling it. A solar flare or two on the right side of the sun might add some balance.

avatar Kid
Kid says:

To make it look more realistic, I would add some motion blur to the capsule (not too much though or you would distort the capsule too much)

avatar kakarot
kakarot says:

I like it! I think it's pretty good! Nice job!

avatar Govindrathod

I would agree to the fact of giving a bit motion blur to the capsule...Also the opacity is kept higher for the stars is better as it gives a feel of DOF of the capsule and the stars and sun...Overall a nice effort.....

avatar sophia
sophia says:

nice idea , gl author

author says:

There, It's fixed, if you would like something else added, leave a comment. Thanks for comments.

avatar ponti55
ponti55 says:

The solar flares still look extremely unconvincing, if you can't make them look more realistic, maybe remove them all together and simply have the capsule and the sun.

author says:

It's not the sun it's planet Earth in lava and fire! And those are not solar flares, those are powerful explosions, witch are dragging in!
