The Halls of the Crabadillo - created by BWR

The Halls of the Crabadillo
Favs: 1SBS: n/aHi-resRank: 2/21Score: 60% (30)19637 views

Combines an armadillo and a crab. Put it on a cement background with some pillars. Sine the armadillo had no visible eyes, I used some frog eyes so he can see. He's mean. Don't go near him. (5 years and 631 days ago)

Congratulations BWR.
Not sure how you came second when we both have exactly the same scores. Looks like equal first to me.

author says:

I think the rules are that if it's a tie, the person not named BWR wins. This is my second tie and I have gotten 2nd place both times. dunno how that works out.

The wave is showing through parts of the train, and the reversed type on the engine looks a bit funny, but it's an interesting image. GL author.

avatar bjaockx
bjaockx says:

CMYK said both things i noticed... use the pen tool to cut out your objects like the train. i realize you mirrored the train to match the curve of the wave, so the front plate could have been selected and mirrored back to be readable, or blacked out entirely to not have the distraction. great first attempt, keep practicing!

avatar pixelkid
pixelkid says:

Is the type on the train supposed to be backwards? It might be...kind of gives it an eerie look. I like your imagination author...

Love it! Great work, author.

the main focus is on the house and not the path... also looks inspired by my last 2 lightning entries... (one though not uploaded from photoshoptalent days)
good luck though

author says:

JamesD I appreciate your comments but no you aren't my inspiration on this entry. If you had been I would have listed you in the credits
I have been waiting for a contest to do something "spooky". I had also not seen your entry (above link) until just now. Your stuff is great and yes it is similar but unfortunately mine is inspired and created by me. We have used the same source image for the house so of course it looks like yours! It would be hard NOT to look similar!

I appreciate your comments, personally I like the focal point and the positioning of the house and pathway. Best of Luck on your entries!

Author, I love spooky images like this... Nice work!

avatar CMYK46
CMYK46 says:

Author, your use of the path is minimal. You could have used it to replace some of the siding on the house. That would have really rocked. (PS: It's not too late to do that).

author says:

Thanks CMYK for the suggestion! Please check the revised version

author says:

Chuck - the pathway is used in front of the house as well as parts of the siding are also the pathway. The railings used on either side of the walkway are also from the source image. Hope this helps!

Thanks again CMYK

Great job author! Reminds me of the old house in Zork I. Even though they didn't have graphics back then and you had to use your imagination... siiigggghhhh.... I'm old... Keep on chopping these Awesome images.

Human Remains - created by iamlukas

Took quite a lot of work till I arranged everything the way I had it in my mind but I'm pretty happy with the result.

Techniques:
A lot of masking, color adjustments, to get the main color effect i used a gradient map from black over dark-turquoise to a creamy yellow to white. (everything with adjustment layers) I used the "lightning effects" filter and the burn tool to illuminate the tree branches right, same for the house. desatureted, added a soft vignette, blended everything (its best to use masks, a non destructive way to erease parts) and did a lot more I cant really remember. Very nicely done. You may want to look at the bird source though, it appears to be copyright. Change that and you will have a very nice entry that will remain in the contest. It would be a pity to see it eliminated.

author says:

Thank you!
ow yea didnt notice that.. is it still a copyright abuse if I didnt actually use the picture but just made a selection of some of the birds and filled it with black? I dont quite know where copyright begins and ends.
/edit: Fixed it, it should be okay now.

avatar blackxhijd

awsomeeees

avatar solkee
solkee says:

You still have an issue with those birds as that image requires to be purchased to be used. You need to search for a free stock image. Use the "Resources" tab at the top of the page to take you to allowable sources. This link will also help http://www.pxleyes.com/blog/2009/06/how-and-where-to-find-legal-source-images/
