This is my idea for the contest. A turtle island inhabited only by one man.

I modified the lighting and the shadows of the source image and the turtle to match the sunset.

Hope you like it! :D

EDIT: I improved the light rim of the tree and replaced the man with one from a photo. Hope it's better now erathion! :D (5 years and 3441 days ago)

Nice overall work, a really nice looking image, but be careful with the white edges around the tree and the man. Also be sure to post all of the sources you used.

EDIT: Ah, okay Great job and good luck.

author says:

thanks for the comment. the white margins were made intentionally, because of the backlight. i posted all the sources. the man is made by me using paths and painting over.

Nice color. The turtle would have a bigger shadow, and maybe blur the rim lighting just a bit. Good luck!

Great work author...Few minor nit picks...u should blur a bit black boat and people on horizon, then glow from the sun on a guy and on a tree can be way better,u achieve that on the turtle, try to do the same on other objects...So that's it,i love this work so much and i will wait with voting, maybe u apply some changes...best of luck

The tree - created by Meh

The tree
Favs: 0SBS: n/aHi-resRank: 26/27Score: 49.3% (0)4295 views

Image is all source. . . no external images used during the creation.

The tree was formed using multiple layering. . with about 4 filters. . .

Layers were created by clipping away portions of the image and further refined via multiple overlays. . . the trunk for the most part was kept the same until the last filter was applied.

Each layer has been filtered by the neon filter (thus color shifted to, yellow, green, red, and blue) with the exception of the truck. Then the motion blur filter was either applied or not applied depending on the layer and desired effect. Distortion was then applied to certain layers (and later those layers were duplicated and shifted - further to darken certain items.)

The following distortion filters were applied. . . Twirl, arc, pinch. They were carefully applied using a temporary mask that was reused on different layers and with multiple filters.

Then the layers were reordered to provide a desired effect (from the original order foreground to background)

Later the background was added which consists of using the gradient tool on the full image (it's actually brown fading to white) and a opacity (white with sandstone).

The original image actually sets with in the photo as well but was pushed close to the back ground. The white boarders were clipped from the original image to allow for the background to flow to the front of the image. (5 years and 3441 days ago)

Nice work but the bottom of the tree (Stones) were cut wrongly, a part of the sea can be seen from the stones, try to fix it and give the stones some sand effect to be more realistic otherwise it's a good picture.

Nice idea -- the rope is not correctly shaped -- if it is meant to be pulled tight then it would not have the loop shape at the tree but be elongated or the loop would be tight on the tree -- if the rope is slack the loop would still drape the tree or be on the ground and the rope would have a curved shape.

avatar lashari
lashari says:

em agree with you Alan, rope must be curved shape and the position of rope should be bottom!

needs a lot of work but the idea is kind of good...
please edit and upload it again
till then i am holding on to my vote

Source image is unrecognizable...you could have made this from anything.

author says:

It is really made from the stairs - that's the whole wooden texture look - you can see it in the SBS. Also I thought that the more author's own input, the better - or am I wrong on that? If so, I am sorry.

avatar spaceranger

You needn't apologize but I agree with what CMYK46 is saying. There should be a unique look to the image that could only be achieved with the given source, this looks very nice but isn't really dependent on the contest source image.

avatar erathion
erathion says:

Author this is very very nice work,i agree that u could made this with anything but lots entry's at pxleyes are made at the same way so don't worry.Maybe u could add some parts from source image, stairs in the background or something else u will have 100% unquestionable entry...Good luck, this is great creativity...

author says:

Thanks for the encouragement ... I do see your point guys; so in order to add another thing from the source image which would be more recognizable, I took out the fly and put in a snake instead, which is made out of the railing from the source image. Hope this helps a bit

avatar jawshoewhah
jawshoewhah [banned] says:

Agrees with CMYK. Really CBR'd, even after you changed it.

Remember, the point of the source image contest is to keep it recognizable at least to a point that we don't have to go to the SBS to see it.

Yep, when you don't see the sbs, it's difficult to believe the image was made from source... but it's really nice and creative! GL...
