This took pretty much all weekend. A LOT of hours, but the further I got into it the more I was liking it, so I just kept going and going! Finding new places that I thought there needed to be feathers and so on. It was a ton of fun to make, hope you all enjoy it :) (5 years and 3037 days ago)

ooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh............woow.......... always wanted a "Parrosus", where can I get one?

Harry Potter will be red-eye when I ride a Parrosus

nice colors, great blending.... almost PERFECT!!! (only feel that it the mane, tail and wings were more flowing... like hair, but this is only my personal preference)

OH THANKS Glad you guys like it so much!
I do see where you are coming from aheman, but I really wanted to stick with the totally feather approach. Thanks for your input though, much appreciated

NICE... WELL DONE but agreed with aheman. The flowing problems because there's a minor shadows in my opinion.

And this is just my input, Author: the Rim Lights should never be 100% white. Photographers will know about this, even if it's directly hit from the sun, there will be a little yellowish or even reddish for the rim lights.

Still, top notch blending, Author! High votes! Good Luck!

Hayato, thanks that was a good call, I updated the background so the light has more of an orangey glow, and is not so pristinely white.

The Well of Transmogrification - created by arca

The Well of Transmogrification
Favs: 4SBS: 25Hi-resRank: 5/28Score: 66.2% (26)22508 views

It's Millennium Night at the Well of Transmogrification. Only once every thousand years can the Night Flyers change. Few survive the transformation but the imperative is strong and the Well draws them to it's darkest depths, to perish or change.

Thank you to Lockstock (figure base) and Falln-Stock (bird claws).

The rest of the images are my own or hand drawn (head dress, face, bird, etc.)

Edit: Cropped image to a less square format, removed bird, lightened image overall and reduced intensity of light swirls from well. None of this is in the SBS . ^U^

NOTE: There is nudity in the SBS and in the original source pack from Lockstock (5 years and 3061 days ago)

Brilliant idea and good execution, some how the colors and subjects suggested me you're the author, and bingo! I have some suggestions for this work, even though it's really good now. Some how I feel you missed one intermediate point, this is when the bird land in the well. I had a bit difficulty to figure out what's going on and I think because of that missing part, and if you have one more creature that totally separated from the well, that will even be more fantastic. The second thing is about the composition, it's quite neat now, but you still can improve...

avatar langstrum
langstrum says:

Because you chose the portrait frame, the way of arranging the birds in a curve queue like this is reasonable, but on the other side, the new creature is flying into the area that limited by this curve. Regarding the idea of this piece, to me, it's a kind of incomplete transformation. How about using landscape frame? so you can arrange the birds on the left and the new creature on the right, you have wide landscape and be able to modify the two parts of the sky to fit the subjects. Just from my angle. Wish you the best of luck with this contest !

author says:

Thanks langstrum, as usual your comments are much appreciated. This was a hard one; my original image did have a bird flying into the Well but I took it out as I was not happy with it but you could be right ... maybe I need to do another photo shoot with crows as the one I had just didn't look right. About the format ... maybe if I change it (back) to Landscape it would look better. I will have to give that a try! Again thanks!!!

And thank you to everyone for the wonderful comments

Please view in High Res. (5 years and 3067 days ago)

avatar MossyB
MossyB says:

The "pedestal" the dragon is sitting on lacks depth. Even in high res, the dragon appears to be floating, rather than sitting on it. The shading under the dragon is causing this, as you have dark shadows on his belly, but the pedestal is light colored. The diagonal light shining down from the upper LH corner compounds the inconsistency.

author says:

Edited! Decided I didn't need sleep and agreed with Mossy so did what I could ... it is now a vertical image and I have done work on the pedestal to make it stand out more ... part of the darkness on the bottom of the dragon is because is heating up
I don't have time to change the SBS but at least that way you can get an idea of what it looked like originally

I almost didn't submit this one as I was running out of time and, yes, you are right Rod it took a lot of coffee!
This was something I have had in mind for a long time (I played with drawing the dragon a while ago and gave up); when I saw the seeds on the bun I felt it was time to go for it asI thought they would work quite well for the scales!

I spent forever making the wings, then got to busy throughout the week to do what I had hoped with them. But I liked the wings so much I had to do something. So I crammed this together last minute, hope everyone likes it :)

For some reason I can't get it to upload any more steps to the step by step, but I managed to upload the making of the wing, the rest is pretty self explanatory. (5 years and 3235 days ago)

It's a great entry but you really CBR'd the source, meaning (Chopped Beyond recognition. There's no sign of the original source in your image. I had to go to the SBS just to see where you used it. I think you should have put more of the original source back into it

avatar creativefreedom

AWESOME!

avatar pingenvy
pingenvy says:

I agree with jawshoewhah, but it is still a beautiful piece of art.

author says:

Yeah I actually agree with you guys now that you mention it. I really did want to take the time to make armor for him out of the source, but didn't have the time
Is there a way to take down your own entries?

avatar EmiK
EmiK says:

Oh this is great and I think you can do whatever you like as long as you have the SBS to show your work. I like this a lot, and sorry jaws, I just think you should be able to do whatever your heart desires with the starting image.

avatar jawshoewhah
jawshoewhah [banned] says:

Look, CBRing isn't against the rules but a lot of people give lower scores for it. And I'm sorry I disagree with you Emik. IMO, if you didn't need the source to make the image you really didn't use it. It defeats the purpose of a source image contest.

avatar George55
George55 says:

Author. Do not take your entry away, you used part of the source image to make your entry. You had the idea, although some times it is better working with the whole image. I think you did a good job, and spent a lot of time pulling your brains out of your head, just to make this beautiful image. I have seen worst CBR entries. I wish you good luck!

avatar erathion
erathion says:

Author, wings creation is fantastic, final product is very good, but usage of the source image is to minimal...this could be made with any image...When i saw your SBS i had that wow thing...wings are perfectly...U could made some flying creature with that and put it on top of containers or to construct something else with source image...In that case u could have another amazing entry...Any how this is very cool final product and i wish u best of luck

avatar cabldawg71

got my vote very nice Author

author says:

Hey everyone I really apreciate all the comments. Glad you like it dispite the lack of lots of source. I was wondering how much I am still aloud to edit? Is it ok if I spend time adding more source image in? Or is it to late to make any major changes? Like I keep saying i totally agree, I intended for pretty much th entire body to be source image but got to busy with work to spend more time on it.
