The ruler certainly shows the size of the tower, but it really doesn't make for a good photograph. Try photographing the tower on it's own, with an interesting background and light. You can use this one as an SBS to prove the size.

You are of course right about the background, but the bell is nicely lit and in good focus. What bothers me more than the background is the placement of the bell.

Lovely detail and light, but I feel this would have been better on a white pate, the blue somehow makes it less appetizing, you could just reduce the blue with hue/saturation in Photoshop.

Nice, personally I would have had the cherries closer to the bottom left.

Nicely done, a reflector in the front to lift the shadows would have made it even better.

rbs, i didnt mean to insult or make him/her feel any discouragement. it's actually really obvious to what i see in the photo, smoke with lights, not really the ideal entry for a "what is it" contest, hence the fact both you and i knew what it was. author, perhaps capture a photo that is more complex? something strange in texture or color, give us a challenge! best luck

It's a great idea, but I would have it less centered and cropped some of the foreground, and of course it would have been nice if the top wasn't cropped. Sorry if I sound negative, but the image has so much going for it.

Would have been better with a warming CTO filter on the flash to make the lighttemp a bit more even. I like the effect tho.

Love the light in this one, could use a little straightening, and I wish id had been in HDR. Would love to see more detail in the shadows. You could try Topaz Adjust.
