The coder's concentration is nicely evident here and I like that the computer screen doesn't suffer from the washout or reflections we often get.
(5 years and 933 days ago)A lovely upload that shows good usage of dof manipulation to punch out the main focal aspects. The colour palette is soothing and feels feminine in soft pink and blues, this colour delights us visually. Colour , as you know, really does affect us carbon based bipeds and brings about an emotional response. The photograph has good marginal space, is well centered , sharp. There is a curious hue at the very L (viewer's L) which is a tad distracting as it looks like a fellow worker may be asleep at the job. The story is well in place and this was a delight to study.
(5 years and 934 days ago)That's fine author, just remember always to explain how you created something either by writing it in your description or adding an SBS showing how it was created. I can accept your written explanation this time but usually when the information is this involved an SBS is the best way to show how you created your image.

(5 years and 943 days ago)The mask work isn't very clean, the background overlaps the hair, face and ear. The other edges are blurry and indistinct. It looks like you put the background over the image of Bell and erased to reveal the figure. You should have silhouetted the figure and placed the background behind him.

(5 years and 946 days ago)I agree with thefinalcut. The fingers kind of look like they are bloody and the selection on the top and left side of the phone is a bit jagged. Maybe work on it a bit more cause you have a good idea here.
(5 years and 947 days ago)Love the concept.. I saw that little string thing and immediately thought of earbuds... Where is the source link for the arm?? The bits on the fingers that aren't de-saturated are distracting from the image.

(5 years and 948 days ago)I agree with Driven. The concept is incredibly unique and creative but would look a lot better with a 3D dimensional effect, some stems on the flowers and using some perspective on the blue check to make it look more like a table with a tablecloth on it than like an apron.

You may want to look into the perspective of the cloth (you can use Distort/perspective to give it some depth) Experimenting with the burn tool to give the vase some dimension.. just gently rubbing the edge to give it some roundness.. not necessary just a suggestion.
(5 years and 1019 days ago)You may want to anchor the flowers (though floating them is effective) the choice is yours. Adding stems would be a bit of a work out, but it would make the image come together tighter.. well in my eyes any way.. and my eyes are pretty effed up so take that with a grain of salt.

It's looking a bit flat.. oh hell.. a whole lot flat.. it looks like the background of a South Park episode. Not a bad thing but a little more work would help loads. I'll hold my vote and see if you make some improvements. Good Luck author.

It's still better to work your entry at a higher res and larger size, this will make it easier to work details and will give you an optimum quality which when reduced to 72dpi will give you a larger and sharper high res and entry image.
(5 years and 1208 days ago)Your high res is only 6.292"X 9.292" and can't be enlarged to see more detail. Compare that with this other entry in the contest: http://www.pxleyes.com/photoshop-picture/57941c6bd6fc6/Royal-Air-Corps.html which has a high res of 64.528"X45.167" allowing the viewer to see a much larger version that you can zoom in to see finite details of the work.
As a professional artist my original illustrations both in conventional media and CGI were always done at a size much larger than the reproduction size to produce a high quality sharp image.

(5 years and 1210 days ago)Good advice from scratzilla1 and Drivenslush. The sources used are at a good res and will be sharper if you create your entry at a larger size and at a higher resolution. (5 years and 1217 days ago)The PSD (working size) is appx. 11.656" X 9.56" at 200 pxls per inch. The JPEG used for submission is appx. 11.656" X 9.56" at 125 pxls per inch giving me a final image at 4.98M which is just under the maximum size allowed for submission images. This makes the high res version of the entry 20.236" X 16.597" at 72 pxls per inch.
It's just a matter of reducing the resolution when making the final JPEG. I keep the res at 100 pxls per inch as the minimum size and if needed I reduce the image dimensions until the final size is at 5.00M or just under that size. It's simple trial and error and takes a little time but the result is a good sharp entry image and a good high res version.
a little rough author, but wonderful to see the imagination... fun chop and the polish will come, you will find yourself correcting things you never noticed before.. you'll get the hang of it, and this is a great start.. GOOD LUCK
(5 years and 1218 days ago)congrats on your entry.. may I give you a couple of tips. if you look at your cut out, especially the arm on the left of screen ( and other parts) it has a very "zig-zag" finish. to help fix that :
(5 years and 1219 days ago)get a small brush .. round - hardness 0. size small ( will vary on the size of your image but start small.. eg 10-25
go to the image layer , click on it.. add layer mask. ( use mask not eraser.. easy to fix image issues).. now using soft brush on mask.colour black to take away , white to bring it back, go around the edges of your image and "smooth" them out

5.6. 3D Renders or Illustrations as Source:
Using other people's 3D renders or illustrations (even with permission and no matter in which form they are offered) creates a false impression of your artwork. So 3D renders or illustrations can not be used as sources, unless they are entirely created by yourself. Only acceptable non-illustration brushes and clip art may be used, but you need to mention them as a source too. Don't use an image that has been altered by the source owner nor an entire work created by someone else.
