For contrast! And all you had to do to match the angle on the plane parts was draw a line down the axis of the tail section (on a separate layer) and match up the nose section according to that line and it would be visually correct.
I'm not sure about blurring the foreground either, but I still like the idea of your image, and hope my comments have helped you.

IMO there should be more windshield, and it should be transparent. Everything else is well done.

Plane parts are at the wrong angle. They don't match up. Plane should be the same gray as the source pic, and not same hues as the buildings, to create contrast.

There's a shadow on the legs where there should be a highlight, since they're lit by the bulb.

I can relate to this image. Personally, I always wear a flower print dress while wading in the ocean in the rain, especially when there are no maple trees within a mile of the shore. No drips coming off the hat or her arms? Amazing how she looks so dry...

Peaches are very well made, and realistic looking. Can't say the same for the leaves. I'd suggest modeling them after a realistic leaf to keep your image consistent. GL author.

Can you make a dark vignette on your new background? I think it would be closer to your original image. GL author.

Looks like you used the magic wand tool to select the moon. Use the pen or lasso tool...the edge is very jagged.

Nice idea. The skin on the hole in the neck needs thickness. The white shape overlapping the figure is just distracting. Clean up the clothes as JimLemon suggests. This could be great with some tweaks. GL author.

Take Jade's advice. This isn't a great use of the source, but you can easily improve it.

You can use the blur tool with your mouse.

OK then, if you don't wanna use a displacement map (which would have made the weave conform to the curves on the face) then use the highlights on the source face to guide your dodging. The head needs more highlights.
