Author, if you take the humming bird on a separate layer, and duplicate it, then blend the top layer with OVERLAY or MULTIPLY, it's definition might come out better and get a bit more detail (you can also play with HIGHPASS or HDR on the top layer and contrast and brightness will help it pop more) the construction is quite nice, very pretty picture for a very difficult source

TERRIFIC (IMHO, maybe a soft burn brush on the beak will make it stand out more, not necessary but the thumbnail looks like there is no beak there at all) great IDEA!!!

Author, the CLONE tool works great on finishing edges if the image has been flattened, if not, an erase tool set at 80% in a sharp edge setting can do the trick.. ,you can also use the BLUR tool if the edges are super tiny but have a lot of sharp edges, blur will soften and blend..

to hunt down Outer debris I usually use the STROKE setting and erase the bad stuff and then shut off the Stroke tool after I've cleaned..

Lots of other suggestions may follow I hope.. (I really have never understood photoshop that much, it's all quite Greek to me, but I got the basics).. Good Luck

Using the BURN brush on the squashes left undersides to match the shading on the tomatoes will make it look more realistic (fantastic Idea) IMHO

Placing grass strands (borrowed from the unblurred area) in front of alice and the bun bun might help them look more IN the grass, and a soft burn brush under neath them might show they are grounded in shadow (burn corresponding edges on the characters as well would help blending).. but then, this is surreal..all IMHO, good luck, very interesting
