Congrats on your win!
(5 years and 2887 days ago)Congrats on the win, most definitely a worthy winner!
(5 years and 2899 days ago)IMHO this should of won, just because it is the epitome of origami, and was technically challenging. Any chance of you sending me the OBJ? Would love to dissect it and see for myself how it was done because I had a few challenges that you seem to have overcome in your design.
(5 years and 2899 days ago)OIC... sorry my bad. Not to complicated though, although I do like the concept - thus just proves that concept is more important that technicality. Bravo and congrats on your win!
(5 years and 2899 days ago)I fail to see how this is actual Origami, yet it is the winner?
(5 years and 2900 days ago)I quote the contest mod: From WIKI "Origami (折り紙?, from ori meaning "folding", and kami meaning "paper"; kami changes to gami due to rendaku) is the traditional Japanese art of paper folding, which started in the 17th century AD at the latest and was popularized outside Japan in the mid-1900s. It has since then evolved into a modern art form. The goal of this art is to transform a flat sheet of material into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques, and as such the use of cuts or glue are not considered to be
There is no reflected light in this image - perhaps rework it and get it looking more realistic so that it can fit in with the theme more.
(5 years and 2903 days ago)Stunning image!
(5 years and 2984 days ago)Brilliant!
(5 years and 2984 days ago)I must admit that although this is a new technique to me, I totally understand how it works. I also question wether this is valid or not in this competition.
(5 years and 2984 days ago)I would like to hear from a MOD on this matter, for not only this contest, but contests that are still to come.
In my opinion when the contest description is asking to MIMIC a photo by means of "Background, lighting, shading, texture and obviously model etc" the entry should contain all of these but be recreated, thus it becomes a mimic, a recreation - not a duplication.
Does this scene have any light setup for example?... no.
This reminds me of the "Grand Egyptian Museum" that is currently being built... take a look here: http://www.e-architect.co.uk/images/jpgs/egypt/grand_egyptian_museum_hpa180608_carchimation.jpg

(5 years and 2998 days ago)I think he means the USA flag is facing the wrong way.
(5 years and 2998 days ago)Nice concept, I like it! I love the idea of the grain of wood representing the ocean waves.
Great work. Love the exhaust pipe on these cars. I could easily see this as a model in a video game, it has enough detail to pass as a low poly model for that.
(5 years and 2998 days ago)I think that the render you had in your workings document actually looks better than this final image... it's the one with the black building (before you textured it).
(5 years and 2999 days ago)On a side note, there is no way ever that that building would ever be constructed, the french are VERY particular about keeping "their" truly historical.
