You need to view the high res to appreciate this one. Nice DOF on the crystals, I can't help but think a slightly stronger source of light would have helped to add more depth and shine to the subject though.

Yes...just like that, but outside the frame so you don't see it...it will reflect some of the light back at the subject that will fill in the harsh shadows and soften them a bit...give it a try

Nice composition....but, perhaps a reflector (white paper or tin-foil) on the side opposite the flash to remove some of the harsh shadow areas may be helpful in future entries...keep working on it, good luck
