This bird carving was found on an old cypress tree up pretty high. I think it was done perhaps with a small hand chain saw. Aging of the cut looks old and because it's a cypress, pretty illegial to damage.

This carving process has been practiced in China for centuries. Multi layers of Cinnabar Lacquer are applied to a metal item which can take up to 1/2 a year to dry. Only after it's dry can the ornate carving can begin.
