My $.02 Worth...It's a great shot...no, it's not playing it "safe", but, I think it's on topic! If we didn't think outside the box, take chances and find different angles and such, every gosh-darn entry would be nearly identical! (Just wait for another candle or fire contest and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about!) I've had dozens of entries removed for "pushing" the limits and experimenting, but, hey, that's how it goes...nicely done author and good luck!

totally agree w/ Ade, this is a flower best shown in color. The highlights are blown here and wash out any type of detail that the sepia would enhance...nice try author.

Sorry author, have been out of state traveling for a few days, yes, you have the lighting definition spot-on...by placing a light that opposes the main light, you can really bring out the sparkle of a gemstone, look at advertising photos of gems in magazines and such and you will see great clairity and sparkle and almost in all caes no shadows, the shadows actually darken some of the facets and dull the gem...hope that helps, just experiment to find the best mix.

Enhance your calm author...you have to sometimes take kyricom with a grain of salt...he doesn't get out much! LOL!!!

I agree with low-key photos, as they are a favorite of mine to shoot, but in this case, your lighting is a bit off as the knife on the left totally blends in with the surface and is lost. Nice try, just experiment with your lighting a bit more in the future

OK...if you really need a comment, I would have made a slight white-balance adjustment to bring the envelopes a bit closer to white...unless like a candle is in the photo, which creates mood...otherwise, the comp is good. GL
