Can we say needs a "tripod"??? Even a cheap old camera can take a great photo if you at least focus and keep it still...there are a couple of artists here that ONLY use a P&S and win!

Agrees w/ Jaws about the horizon, the boat looks like it's going to fall off the photo any minute...

It's alright for a high-key shot, I rather like the effect. "perfectly exposed" is not always the best way to go for effect. (IMO)

Agrees, unless bounced or filtered, flash is usually a bad, bad thing....

Sorry author, i have to agree, great photo, but not seeing any real lens flare here...I would have saved this one for a different contest.

Much better than the original, now you have a clearly visible subject which shows great lighting

It's alright, sometimes HDR's are entered into other contests, it's a technique like exposure blending that is allowed. Just try not to overdo the saturation levels for a landscape and you should get a great result.

This would have been a great shot for HDR, to get all the foreground detail, like the framing and nice use of the CPL...GL

Author, although it's well composed...to really bring out the great lighting qualities of a gem-stone it's much better to use a non directional lighting pattern to make the really sparkle...just a hint to try for a future shot.

nice work author, this was a difficult challenge and you have a great first attempt here. I hope you continue to try more in the future, we all know these contests have a way of comming around more than once! LOL

neat coloration and good focus here, that is one of the hard parts, especially when you can't see what you're doing...it's almost like being a blind photographer!

Agree...clairify the subject by cropping out the distracting light at the top and you'll have a stronger image author...

I don't think it's flare as the sun appears to be nearly behind the photographer, it appears more like a hotspot created when a lens "disagrees" with an IR filter...happens

Thank you author for the explination...now I see where the orange came from...channel mixer! I know how hard it is to get IR in focus...Have done many with film...the different wavelenght of light causes the focus to be off if you don't have IR markings on the lens itself...good work...

EDIT: btw...different lenses all handle IR filters differently as far a focus and detail are concerned...many have UV and IR resistant coatings to make the visible light "POP" and makes it a real bugger if trying IR...

wonderful...try this...use the dark background and inbetween the backdrop and the subject, apply a light directed at the subject...use a tripod and shoot it the way you did in this one...I think you'll like the results.
