Been to TJ many times myself author, what an interesting place, so many contrasts in the same place...nicely done, the treatment in post processing works well here, it gives the gritty feel of the area well.

Author, although on topic...you should seriously consider replacing this shot with something actually in focus for any chance of competing or finishing well. Entering something just to enter is never a good idea, you should at minimum have the basics of clear focus for choosing a shot to enter...just saying...

EDIT: after seeing your portfolio, you are MUCH better than this entry...I honestly think you should replace this...

Actually, I rather like the image as it is...the lighter image goes along with the light mood captured in the image...Police in public tend to be very staunch, this provides a different view into their daily routine. Well done Author...

Normally I wouldn't care for the cropping here as the heads are chopped on some of the people, but...the more I look at this, the more I like it! It conveys a feeling to me that perhaps the poor woman sees all others this way, as faceless and random people passing, adding to the feeling of despair in the image...the man on the top left seems to be ready to look away as he's getting ready to pass the beggar...actually a moving image, well done

This would be a better shot IMHO if the rider and bike were a composed a bit more to the left of the frame and that very distracting shadow did not cross the subject....nice try author, but, in the future, try to eliminate distracting features from the shots when composing the image.

It actually looks like "he's?" playing the game. The composition might be better if you just cropped out the screen on the right...the bright white of the screen is just a tad distracting and it would help center the kitten better...I'm not a big fan of centering the subject, but, in this case it would work just fine.

Much better...one of the biggest things that distract from an otherwise good shot is crooked horizons...just a tip

I have a 50D also that I use as a back-up, been shooting it for 3 years, nice camera. Mine has close to 175,000 actuation's on it now and still works.

Really author? no flash? and only a 1/2500th shutter-speed?!? what was your f/stop and light source...I'm VERY curious, perhaps what cam did you use too....I've been shooting for a couple of months and I can't see how this very High-speed shot was accomplished, would LOVE to see the original or Hi-Rez...

To have your shutter-speed that high w/o a flash, your light source must have been VERY intense and to keep the BG black without spill-over is a very neat trick...

Meatman...it's not shutterspeed that 'freezes' the action, it's the flash....
