(5 years and 2930 days ago)Lovely, so elegant too =)
(5 years and 2930 days ago)Oh. This buddy looks like my late dog...
(5 years and 2996 days ago)Except you can't adjust just the trees or sky as Mossy said - it has to be over the whole image. .... sorry missed that bit lol
(5 years and 2997 days ago)The adjustments that Mossy is talking about are not about creating a selective coloured object. It is about adjusting the colour which by the guidlines on the site are allowed as per item 6.5 in the guidlines. The tool says 'selective colour' but it means that you boost(saturate) or desat the colour in the image to correct ie. whites. In fact I can say that there is an entry this week that uses this exact method
(5 years and 2997 days ago)What Tools/Alterations Can I use?
In general, you should try to avoid editing your photos, whether in camera or with some editing software on a computer. Being a good photographer also means being able to take good shots without having to edit afterwards. We understand that enhancing pictures after the fact has a long tradition in photography and thus we allow for certain digital darkroom techniques, which is readily available in most photo handling software today. As a general rule, you are allowed to all adjustments which act on the whole picture and on exactly one picture (a.k.a. non selective editing). This includes:
- 6.1.: Level
- 6.2.: Curves
- 6.3.: Hue
- 6.4.: Saturation
****- 6.5.: Color adjustments/shifting****
- 6.6.: Brightness
- 6.7.: Contrast
- 6.8.: Gaussian blur
- 6.9.: Noise reduction
- 6.10.: Sharpness
- 6.11.: Crop and rotate
- 6.12.: Lens correction
- 6.13.: Camera raw editing
- 6.14.: Healing brush to remove dust and scratches from a scan or speckles from dust on your camera's sensor
- 6.15.: Duplicated layers
- 6.16.: Layer blending modes
@Fallinghorse: the described adjustments by MossyB are not allowed, the fact they are allowed within a 'selective coloring' contest is what 'selective coloring' contests are about and what makes them a special kind of contest.
(5 years and 3002 days ago)I think that the image adjustments that Mossy has described are acceptable & within the guidlines - the same methods are used for some 'selective colour' entries in other comps.
(5 years and 3002 days ago)great.. feel it living.
(5 years and 3002 days ago)hey i liked it... i felt as if some one has stolen his important object/wallet or he has lost his passport.. and he is sitting sad in any railway platform or airport... lol funny but this what i felt when saw 1st this image !
(5 years and 3002 days ago)Didn't mean to upset you, but with the original title the photo didn't seem to fit the theme, and you know how picky the Mods can be, It's such a good photo, that I would hate to see it removed. Perhaps it's just my grasp on the language. GL
(5 years and 3003 days ago)Lovely idea...
(5 years and 3004 days ago)IMO the title makes it off theme, how ever if you change the title the photo would be perfect.
(5 years and 3005 days ago)Being lost in thought, doesn't make him a looser, but he could have lost his way, lost his money etc.
GL
elbows or even squatting according to the contest brief is fine.
(5 years and 3006 days ago)Nice shot, Author
I have to agree with Kiwi, this does not, regardless of your reply, give the impression of being shot from ground level. did you mow the grass short in front of the camera, or were you propped on your elbows, I think the latter is the case personally.
(5 years and 3006 days ago)very effective
(5 years and 3006 days ago)Halos are the one major downside of digital cameras...
(5 years and 3006 days ago)Edit: It looks better, now. the halos are not so bright and obvious.
It looks like you've over-sharpened this photo, there's a terrible white "halo" effect around the trees. You might be able to correct it somewhat with Image>adjustments>selective color>whites, but you may have to select just the trees and sky, so as not to adjust the rest of the image...
(5 years and 3006 days ago)The black of the front most rail car is also a bit too black and over dominates the image, anchoring the eye in that corner.
To me, black and white throws the balance off for this photo. The dark values over dominate the image, and the thin rails just aren't strong enough, although the train headlines help some. Maybe if there were more shades of gray...
(5 years and 3007 days ago)Edit: Much better, thank you!
fair enough, sorry for doubting you.
(5 years and 3007 days ago)awwww this brings back memories. We released I think 150 butterflies at my wedding and it was so beautiful! Great capture here
(5 years and 3007 days ago)well done, but I think it should have been in last weeks 'Extreme danger' contest. LOL
(5 years and 3007 days ago)It's technically a beautiful photograph, but in my opinion you were not all that close to the ground when you took it.
(5 years and 3007 days ago)beautiful, great shot, a friend of yours or did you just get lucky?
(5 years and 3007 days ago)Great capture, I almost expect to see him chew chew chewing really fast...
(5 years and 3007 days ago)Really nice lighting without being too bright or too dim.
very pretty, but the DOF is very shallow.
(5 years and 3008 days ago)Backwards to please, I'm sure...
(5 years and 3008 days ago)Very rich colors and a unique subject.
Beautiful composition, the patterns of the flowers and all those butterfly wings really makes a nice visual.
