I know first hand how impossible it is to get these hummingbird moths in focus...they zoom around on lightening speed. What a catch and congratulations. Do you think a tighter crop would strengthen this image....by taking out that blurred flower at the bottom and pulling in at the right would make him jump out at us even moreso. You have sharpness on his eyes and that is what counts. Lovely, simply lovely.

These handsome 'beasts' do jump so beware as one jumped on my camera one year and scarred the beejeebees outta me. You have done such a great job on capturing him in full body with complete sharpness on those eyes where the sharpness ought to be. That black hole in the background supplies us viewers with meat to the story of this curious spider coming out to have a look at you too. This photograph makes me happy, I am delighted to see him, so posed, so sweet and in his natural environment. Love it.

What an absolutely most handsome "beast" sitting there in very well caught camouflage, I almost missed him. I like the surprise element to your photograph it delights me. Initially the grapes on the left (viewer's left) led the eye out of the frame so I can't help but wonder had you included them in the photograph if the image would be strengthened, but I must say that bug captivates. Your shot is sharp, natural hues, good bokeh. Instead of including more grapes, try cropping up to remove the blocked up aspect of the grapes (very dark part which has no detail) and try nipping it a bit more at the right but do leave green background in and see if you like it better as it would eliminate the block up and bring in the handsome brute in a tad closer to us. I love finding these kinds of surprises in nature and thank you for bringing him to us.

What an absolutely sweet shot. Nicely comoposed on the frame, sharp as a tack and the colour palette is natural. I would not mind a tighter crop at our left as that leaf seems to be stealing some attention away from the butterfly saying "look at me, look at me" and we do. A strong line like that on the frame also takes our eyes and leads us out of the photo. The anchor, that butterfly, however, is sharp and beautifully patterned which you caught and I know they are not easy to photograph. I think this is a well taken image.

I like the composition, it has good balance and rhythm. I do have some suggestions, the bird seems to be a bit closer to us (the observer) than the fox which works based on the line of sight of the fox to the bird, the problem for me is that the tree itself is further away creating an almost Escher like look. That can be fixed by extending the base of the tree so it's in front of the foreground grass making it appear closer to us and more in line with the bird and branch. You can do this with a little cloning work. I should also mention the branch with the bird is darker than the rest of the tree which is very obvious in the Hi Res and should match the tone of the rest of the tree. The cheese may be a bit too large to be held by a bird of that size IMHO. I know I may seem over critical but I like this image and think a few minor fixes would really make it even better.

I am happy to find this unique presentation of this very familiar structure. You have it off to the side and not the usual cliche image and that makes it extra interesting. The minimal colour palette is also very becoming. A pleasure to view.

Hi, I'm having a look through your portfolio and really like this one. I am a sucker for KISS principle and you have nailed it with this. The dof is used to your benefit, it is "sharp as a woman's tongue" on the main focal point. .....and of course the colours are soothing.

ha ha ha...Some days I amaze myself and other days I put the keys in the fridge.

I feel like giving you a review on this upload. I wish more people would do critiques. Here it goes:

The one thing with your upload that struck me was the colour palette. As carbon based bipeds we are always affected by colour, it draws emotions out. I find the colour of your work to be very soothing in muted shades of earth tones. To add a peeling paint filter which also has muted shades further supports your overall image. I like the brown frame but a bit larger thicker frame would have been nice as well. Then there is the story component...that little lamb looking up to us...this shows his fragility in this world...we are the stewards of life here on earth and we do love all "beasties" as cleary shown by your well considered upload. Wishing you luck in the contest.

Dear Author,

I think this contest asks that you put up the original beside the filter forge manipulated image. If you would include the filters used that would help us all to learn. I really like the effect of peeling paint and the fact this sheep is eyeing me.
