just my opinion of course, but I don't see this as a portrait, it could be anyones eyes, and they do not really convey any feeling...........

some people are just blind author...........but, in fairness, what doesn't help in this shot, is the lack of pollution on the beach in the background.........imo, that would have helped your case immensely.......

some sort of back projection, with you in front of it would be my guess, especially as there is a strong light source directly in front of you which does not suggest a front projection.

the patterns in peacock feathers have been used many times to create fractal images, but I do not know if they are fractals in their own right!
