for the fading into of the black and brown, you can use a big brush for the "Eraser" tool to brush out for a smoother fade-in.

nice adaptation .... background should be as simple as possible to have better focus
on the main objects

1) perspective of the cube should be downwards (towards the front)
2) the boy should not have such a strong light cast, as the light ray is too far away

the frog-part is too sharp compared to the snake part, should be the same sharpness, then will it look a whole.

To make the picture more interesting, should let it coil-up a prey... etc. The background cannot bring out the creature as the main focus.
