As wonderful image as this is, I feel that the focus is more on the flag and surroundings than the gravestone. IMHO I probably would have tweaked the levels a bit to give it more presence and depth. You are on the right track by using BW though. Just a couple of observations, hope I don't offend you.

you may have a point, but it is a wall, painted or otherwise, and therefore falls within the guidelines.

Barely. It doesn't matter because the wall is far from the focus. The art hides a wall perfectly.

IMO, I would not call this an artistic take on a wall. I would call it documenting someone else's art.

Jawsh, take a closer look, there are areas in the image where you can see the texture on the wall.

Honestly I can't tell this was painted on a wall, even in high res. Although this is an awesome photo, it just doesn't show a wall in it. If there were grooved patterns of bricks or blocks from mortar falling out, that would be different, but this you can't tell.
