I liked your previous version better. It's hard to make out all your hard work (especially in Low res) on the details and the background doesn't looks roughly pasted. I'll cast my vote partly on your previous work and the SBS however.
(5 years and 3668 days ago)Sorry author, I usually cast my vote after the deadline (in case of changes), so I don't know who you are... yet! But you can blame me anyway.
(5 years and 3678 days ago)Water usually has some transparency at that angle. The water would have looked good on an outside scene, but not in a pool. Good bumping anyway.
(5 years and 3678 days ago)Good and creative use of simple primitives! The robot has to much reflection and the ground is too repetitive. The final render looks grainy and the colors aren't very exciting. Easy things to fix though. Good luck.
(5 years and 3680 days ago)Looks good, but you could probably do much better with some adjustments.
(5 years and 3681 days ago)First of alI think there's way to much reflection on some parts. Especially the frames on the armchairs and the sofa. They seem to reflect more than a mirror. The carpet seems to have to much contrast (to much bump?). Modeling some simple fur on it would probably make a big difference. The lighting could be greatly improved with a different setup and Global Illumination (depending of Cinema 4D version). God luck anyway.
Based on your SBS the helmet looked good in ZBrush. But it seems to have lost some details on your final render. Actually I found it hard to see what it was in HI-Res. Anyway, no hard feelings, because of the lack of time to fix anything before the deadline I'll base my vote on the SBS-version instead.
(5 years and 3683 days ago)Looks good! I like the fact that you dared to texture the helmets old and worn. I'm glad you didn't go the safe way, with the much too overrated simple reflections (= high votes), and went for realism instead.
(5 years and 3685 days ago)Anyway, the only constructive things I can come up with is about the surrounding. I think the seabed looks to uniform (like Billyboy said), smooth and empty. More bump should do it. Also, the textured simulation of light projecting the waves on the seabed (caustic) doesn't seem to affect the helmet. I know Maya has possibilities for this though. Really good job anyway!
(I'll vote later in case of improvements)
EDIT: ...I forgot one thing. Great SBS!
Looks good. I like it! The details and the various objects makes the scene come to life. I also like the fact that you've done a detailed SBS that clearly shows your work!
(5 years and 3687 days ago)I don't know about 3DS Max's capabilities, but It may look even better with better shadowing (for example "Final Gather" Global Illumination, with the window as the main lightsource). You could also use focal blur the bars. And adjust the cameras focal length to cover more of your work! But that's just my opinion. Good job anyway!
Did you model the objects yourself as the contest goal says? I can't tell by your 2-step SBS.
(5 years and 3688 days ago)Hey author, what happened to that Anti Aliasing Ory mentioned? I'm still eager to see what it looks like in higher quality. The rendering will probably take some time, but I'm sure it will be worth it, now that the deadline has been expanded and all.
(5 years and 3689 days ago)I agree with the rest. It looks really good. Actually i was half way through modeling a helmet like that. But I now realize it wouldn't match yours.
(5 years and 3695 days ago)People on this site seems too amazed of one of the most basic futures of 3D-rendering - reflections. I'm not. I'm more amazed about the modeling. You've done a really good job on the details and making it look smooth. And I love the use of fur/hair.
If you're planning to use it in another project, with other objects, you should however reduce the reflections and add some textures to the diffuse and reflection to make it look realistic. High marks from me!
Looks good. I especially like the wood and the spikes texturing. But you could however add some more bump to some parts of the helmet to make it look even better. A flat mirror ground is boring - maybe you could add some minor bump there as well to make it look less "perfect". Good job anyway.
(5 years and 3697 days ago)I like it in ultra lo-res. But it's not possible to give a fair vote or comment with that size.
(5 years and 3699 days ago)I would really like to see this in hi-res. Please try finding a solution to the crash issue. If you can't solve the problem - maybe someone can render it for you, if you post what 3D-software you used.
Finally an entry on this one! A Hi-Res version would be nice for the details.
(5 years and 3700 days ago)What the...
(5 years and 3702 days ago)Not that much of a landscape, but I do like the sun.
(5 years and 3703 days ago)That is one ugly hare-lipped dude! Accordint to the SBS it seems very well modeled. I especially like the hair and the skin texturing.
(5 years and 3705 days ago)The only improvement I can think of is that the nose could be less glossy and that the specularity map overall could be decreased 25-50%. But that's just my picky opinion; it looks really great anyway. High marks!
I really like your model (based on your SBS), but the end result has some softening or blurring filter that ruins the possible finer details. I agree with "billyboy" about the hilt. It looks roughly painted on in Photoshop. The blade has some weird edgy shadow (try using Radiosity or something).
(5 years and 3706 days ago)I'm sorry, but I don't like it at all. :/ I must be honest. In my opinion the modeling, but especially the texturing looks awful. I'm really sorry, but I can't come up with something constructive on how to improve it. :/ But at least you don't seem to have that many to compete against.
(5 years and 3706 days ago)Looks ok, but blurry.
(5 years and 3706 days ago)Nice modeling! With a background, it would look even better. The only suggestion I can come up with is that the bump texture should bee less appearing on the blade (only seen in high res) and more on the on the rest of the parts. But thats just my opinion. Good joob!
(5 years and 3706 days ago)Good looking model, but how about some textures? I also miss smothing, lighting/shadows, background and anti aliasing. This one has potential, but I'll hold my vote in hope of at least some improvements.
(5 years and 3715 days ago)I would like a fish tank like that! Possible improvements: The fishes looks flat. The light from the windows should make objects cast shadows. The fish tanks glass looks solid and neither the glass or water seems to refract. The textures could use some bump map to make it more real.
(5 years and 3721 days ago)The model looks good. But what's with that grainy background?
(5 years and 3725 days ago)According to the Contest Goals you're supposed to make the textures yourself.
(5 years and 3727 days ago)"Create your own models and your own textures.", it says.
Great model, but I'll hold my vote until that's cleared up.
Wow
(5 years and 3727 days ago)I'm sorry if i missunderstand your descpription and SBS, but the contest goal says the textures is supposed to be made by yourself! You used a source for the texture, right? I do like it, but i'll save my vote untill you got that cleared up.
(5 years and 3728 days ago)I like it.. a very well done simple idea!
(5 years and 3735 days ago)Good concept! Some improvements: Edges seems to be too blurred, the rifles angle may be wrong, the shadows on the ground are hardly visible, there should be no light comming from the ground (lightsource behind/below the original source). High-res is also nice.
(5 years and 3735 days ago)Author: My so called "horizon" may be limited, who knows.. but I do know that a completely black image, that would take 1 second for anyone to reproduce, isn't impressive at all in a photoshop contest. Apart from the great SBS it's a complete waste of space compared to your previous entrys (in your portfolio). Since it's the end result that counts, not the SBS, I gave you low marks. You should turn the comments off if you don't want criticism.
(5 years and 3735 days ago)It sure was a clever and creative SBS, but the end result is just meaningless. So, sorry, really low marks for the entry. Higher for the SBS though.
(5 years and 3735 days ago)Looks great! I like the dark grey feeling of the image.
(5 years and 3735 days ago)This is not fair! I don't think I dare to make an entry - it would would only be left in the shadows of this one.. Good job!
(5 years and 3749 days ago)I agree with you - you did a great job with the lighting. But I'm still with the others about the repetative feeling. Even though thats how the condos may look (I have no idea), there should be at lest be some difference in the texture. So, I'm sorry, but i'll vote later in hope of improvements.
(5 years and 3750 days ago)Darn, I had the same idea!
(5 years and 3751 days ago)Strange entry... I don't understand these kinds of images, but I sure envy your creativity! It seems very well done according to the SBS. The only flaw I can find is in HI-res; the mouth thing have been mirrored, but hasn't been correctly aligned (step 10 or 11). Good job!
(5 years and 3754 days ago)Good job! I'm usually not a big fan of these kinds of remakes, but this one was really something!
(5 years and 3755 days ago)Sorry, I don't get it.. you probably have a thought, so maybe you can explain: Is it a fur keyhole? Is it a wall in the background? Why a lightning?
(5 years and 3755 days ago)Probably a good idea, that however could use some improvements. In addition to the other comments of available improvements: The tires looks blurry and should be masked better. Also the roof cut away looks blurry. The car seems to casts no shadow. And what's that twisting thing on the back of the car?
(5 years and 3757 days ago)Good and simple idea of using the inspiration-drying source image. At first it looked good, then decent.. and in Hi-res I can see the key going in to the thumb. The door knob contour should shaded to match the background better. A very discreet dark background may be nice too.
