That is a lot of carvings, but it doesn't make for a very exciting photograph. You would have done better to just concentrate on one of the carvings.

There are a lot of edits allowed, and straightening images and cropping is definitively allowed.
Easiest way to explain what you can do;
Just about anything that is applied to the whole image. e.g. you can desaturate by channels (remove all red, etc), but you can't desaturate part of an an image, by using masks etc.
Lately rules have also been changed to allow burn and dodge, which has of course been used in darkrooms forever.

You don't see the photo at it's best as shown here, a High Res, gives us a chance to really see how good or bad a photo is.
I tend to vote lower if there isn't a high res, feeling that the author doesn't really want us to see the 'full' picture.
