You are both right, When converting an image to black and white, there is more to it than just removing all the colours, default settings for conversion are seldom the best.
The selection and separation from the background is very well done.

It;s a lovely photo and great idea, just a very slow and tedious job to get rid of all the colour, masks and layers help.

Beautiful work, but goal states:
Show the individual photos in your SBS when possible, when made from a single photo show us the process you used and when your camera uses in camera HDR then state so and state the type of camera you use.

Would have been much better if the bars had been desaturated too.

You are quite correct now, the goal has been clarified.

I believe it's a language problem. And that the intention was for the object to have only ONE colour, why else would it be stated that Black is not counted as a colour.

Some white balance correction and increased contrast would greatly improve this image.
I also suggest you take your camera off auto, an ISO of 3200 gives a lot of noise. You would have got the same exposure with ISO 400 and exposure time of 1/80 sec. You will get much better quality photos if you could try keeping your ISO at 100. This isn't always possible of course, but is good to aim for.

'Shoot just one and only one colored object against a white object.'
Means that the 'one coloured' means the object has only one colour.

Great photo, and perfect for the theme, but I feel you would have a better photo if you cropped it at the bottom. I would crop out the very shaded portion of the floor.
