IMO you should have stepped back some so the focus is not just on the girl texting. It seems the focus is only on the girl and you can't even tell that she is at a bar because hardly any of the bar is showing (if in fact that is a bar??? or is it a theater?) If I was a newspaper, I surely would use this for an article that is about TEXTING. The quality of the photo is good.

ahhhhh yes, I thought that's how it probably was done. I was actually just reading a cool website today that showed a similar technique with a hand that looked like it was holding a window that said "this is not photoshopped" all in front of a computer screen.

This is GREAT! Of course I'm biased toward B&W but still, the DOF is great, I love the expression on the child's face, the way that mom is crouched down with the little one seems to tell a story. I can almost hear what she's saying, and who can resist saying awwwww to a kid running around in nothing but a diaper
