Nice effort and quite realistic image. Your drawing and execution are good, but I have some critiques about the eye. As far as I know, human eye doesn't have that much hairs and they should be thicker, you can verify that easily by looking to the references. The other things are the contact should be rounder and the teardrop is not really convincing, it looks like a wound on the skin.
This work is the best one so far in this competition IMO. Good luck!
EDIT: to make it more realistic, you can add the shadows of the eyelash on the upper part of the eye

Great first entry! The blending is almost perfect, the low range or color works well on the mood and the idea is creative. Your style brings the fresh air to the competition and I see the potential in you work. I have few suggestions about the content of that image: since you want to show that she wants to fly, the spatial feel on the image is very important. All these birds are going to fly away or just flied not far from her. If you could add some other birds with different sizes, in different place of the DOF (depth of field), the topic will be emphasized more. Because she wears the dark clothes, it's better to make the brighter background. In your case, it's still okay because she's distinguishable, but if there are few bright clouds in front of her (background), this will be better.
One more thing maybe you've already known or not. The SBS is mandatory in the case of the source contest like this one, but in the theme contest without given source, the SBS is not mandatory, it's up to authors.

In the case using Google search, you can find the legal source by using Advanced Search (close to the box for the key word). In advanced search, go to the bottom and change the option of Usage rights: Return images that are "labeled for reuse with modification". That means the image is under the Creative Commons license and re-mixable. Just remember don't use the others' artwork to make your entries. Good luck!

Agree with the others' opinions. About the background I don't think you have to work more on it, now it's fine. The purpose of using the shallow DOF is making the main subject standing out. In your case, the path behind her has the pattern which is uniform enough to lead the focus to the girl, so it's okie, not mention that you also achieved the surrealistic look . But I still have some questions for you, author. Why the hair is longer than her left hand when they have equal position horizontally (I mean both of them are limited by the ground, so the end of the hair should be higher or equal to the left hand, which is a bit in front of the hair). Why the statue hands behind her have the long, straight, and sharp shadows but she has just blurry and not clear shadow (the hair needs shadow on the ground also)? The last thing is the nails of the statue hands look distorted too much.
All in all, the first impression on this work is very good, especially the wise use of color and smart composition. You really have not only the good skill but also the artistic eyes, congrats!

Basically this is the digital painting work. Why didn't you use the advantage of photo manipulation? If I were you, I would use the real portrait image and blend the skin to the painting and all worries will be gone .

Honestly, the best part to me is her skin, especially the chest area, the lighting there is so realistic. And, so her face needed to be smoother to be similar to her body. Really great portrait!

I think you're pro in illustrating comics. What I like best is the complex shadows, and then the metal effect. I prefer the top one, even though the color of the dino is not as good as the blue one, the color tone of the whole piece is not neutralized (or uniformized) to the level of the bottom one. This dino is more stand out from the background. I want to see more this kind of image in Pxleyes, really unique

haha, I blended exactly the same guy with a meerkat , just with different pose, seems like the meerkat is very suitable with this costume, and he looks artistic, too . I think you need to work more on his shadow, let see the light circle around him, the borderline is not that sharp, so his shadow should be blurred more, and a bit crop on top of the image will make the light comes continuously to him, now it looks like coming from somewhere in the air. OMG, this man appeared several times in Pxleyes, but from different sources. One appeared recently as the source image in the Bearded man contest, provided by Jaskier (I though that he took the photo) http://www.pxleyes.com/photoshop-contest/15291/bearded-man.html. But the author of the photo you use in sxc.hu is the other person, and other shot of him was picked by Clinge to use as the reference in Dodge and Burn contest: http://www.pxleyes.com/photoshop-picture/4b223b756e126/Old-Man-Thinking---.html. Is that any coincidence?
Focus on the main thing is about your work, it's very well done, the sepia tone and the blue eyes fit perfectly . However, I think if the bear is less sepia a bit, the overall contrast can be increased. Good luck!
