Nice shot, it's funny how all the chairs are facing the water except the empty one which faces the opposite direction

I like the lighting on this, and the reflection makes it that much better.

This is a cool shot I love the colors and the angle, but it started to make me sick while I was looking at it lol

I love the contrast between the blue sky and the orange water, it's too bad this is such a tragic scene. Absolutely stunning capture author!

I just realized there is another fence in the background, that makes this even better!

If the author as you said was trying to pass off something as moss that wasn't, what would you call it? Again I think if you have a question about it, rather than outright saying it's wrong perhaps you should ask first.

This is incredible! That clock tower has so much character. Where is this?

k5683 why is it that every macro shot of moss on here you claim is a pine tree? People on this site are way to quick to accuse others of cheating.

The focus isn't really on the moss here.

I agree with the contrast comments but this is an awesome shot. I drove around for about 5 hours looking for a fence like this!

When I first saw this what most appealed to me was the OOF grass, then I read the comments and had to laugh! The funny thing is I almost always agree with friiskiwi, ah well to each his own i suppose

Just a wire fence ...

This is beautiful, gotta wonder why a picturesque fence like this is laced with barbed wire though!

There are over 12,000 known species of moss, are you saying that you can identify every species just by looking at a picture of it online? Perhaps you should tell us what it is before saying what it is not.

1st off congrats on your new toy! I like the new growth on the saplings surrounding the decaying fence it makes a very interesting subject. But imho you should consider cropping it down a bit, there's too much empty space on the left side, it detracts from the fence. You might also consider increasing you dof so more of the fence is in focus, and you are bit overexposed. Keep at it though, participating in these contests will help you learn a lot!

Author here are a bunch of comments from people who care and don't even know you. if there are this many people in the virtual world who care enough to take the time to stop and write a message of encouragement then I'm sure there are several people in your life who care even more. It's those people that you need to think about when your having a down moment my friend, pick up the phone and call someone, anyone... Even if it's just to say hi or to tell them to go online and look at your really depressing photos Hang in there man, no matter how bad it is remember it will all get better eventually!

I may have this wrong and if I do please correct me but the rules are the merging should clearly be shown and both liquids must appear in the photograph. The way I understand it that would make this image off topic, correct? I'm not trying to single you out author, I think this is a great shot, I'm just trying to better understand where the line between creative take on the theme and off topic is. Could someone clarify?

I understand why people are saying that there is too much noise and from a photographers aspect that may be true but, my friend saw this picture just now and loved it because of the "graininess".

I think as photographers we need to evaluate our view of "what is correct" in photography. Is it what we as photographers view as correct or what the "uneducated" public thinks looks nice?

Hey no worries karaflazz, sorry if I seemed standoffish, I'm just kinda frustrated by this site's inconsistency. I guess I don't understand how they determine if things are off topic or not.

I am extremely new to photography (just bought my first camera in january 2 days before my first photography class) but I have been watching this site for a long time because a friend of mine posts on here, and have followed your entries very closely because I know I can learn a lot from them. I tried to think outside the box like you do and like this entry does and thought I did a good job of doing so, I even asked one of my professors what he thought and was told that it was good, so you could imagine my shock and outrage last week when my entries were removed!

I'm still trying hard to learn and with each new contest my knowledge grows, that's why I do them. I guess this is just a lesson learned, continue to try and be creative and hope to hell I don't get shot down in the process

Good luck Author, despite my comments I hope you do well!

First of all I never said that this was not artistic, I believe quite the opposite in fact! Second of all I'm not saying that the chains are in fact connected to something other than a swing I'm just saying that they could be, and with how picky the moderators are on this website this shouldn't be able to slide by. I have seen you and this author use this principal several times and win contests by being creative and I thought it was cool that open mindedness was allowed here, that was until I tried to do the same thing in two different contests last week and had both my entries deleted within hours for being off topic. Both of them were exactly this type of thing but I was told that while I had excellent and creative shots they couldn't be allowed because they didn't follow the contest goals. This is a direct quote from the e-mail the moderator team sent me

"Keep in mind that we have to remove everything that is considered even SLIGHTLY off-theme to avoid unnecessary argues after the contest ends."

For clarification, I think this is an awesome shot, I think it is a creative take on the theme, but according to the moderator team it shouldn't be allowed or do these rules only apply to lower level people such as myself?

Author I am in no way trying to attack your work so please do not take it that way, I'm simply saying that either this type of creativity should be allowed across the board or not at all.

I love this shot, props to the author but I would have to agree with wiseman.
I thought the same thing last night when I first saw this but figured I would wait to see if I was the only one. The contest goal says "A swing is a hanging seat,
In this contest you will have to take a shot of such a swing (hanging seat), either in motion or still." This is a photo of chains not a hanging seat. How do we even know what these chains are connected to? If the contest goal was to take a picture of a dog could someone enter a photo of a leash and claim artistic expression?

Also I hardly think that it is at all appropriate to call someone close minded because their opinion differs from yours Karaflaz.

Well I for one find the symbolism to be obvious, it's spilt salt, In Leonardo DaVinci's famous painting, "The Last Supper," Judas Escariot has just spilled a bowl of salt - a portent of evil and bad luck. To this day, the tradition endures that someone who spills salt should throw a pinch over his left shoulder to ward off any devils that may be lurking behind. Although I do agree with the comment about sharpness and I think that it would also do better with less noise. Excellent idea though!
