I'm digging the wind swept look in its hair.
Great work!
(5 years and 3271 days ago)Agreed; the sepia tone really makes this photo.
(5 years and 3271 days ago)Excellent work, author. You toned this to perfection (the sky in particular; its very light but the data is not completely gone). All the best!
(5 years and 3271 days ago)Not sure what this is (I'm not up to speed on my Old McDonald) but this is a great picture that I really can't find anything to improve upon. As a nitpick I may pull the crop back a bit so that the animal's mouth isn't so tight against the border but that's REALLY stretching to find something. Nice work, author!
(5 years and 3271 days ago)Guess he wants you to "moooooo-ve along?" (Thank you, I'll be here all night! Try the steak!)
(5 years and 3271 days ago)Great shot, author, and I can't really find anything to critique other than the annoying tag in the animal's ear (which isn't something you could help without photoshopping it out). Excellent work, per usual. All the best!
The white horse hanging in the middle of the group gives this a nice sense of symmetry without actually being symmetrical (hard to pull off, but awesome when you do). Framing is great and the colors are well done (although I'd like to see this with the colors muted to give it a more nostalgic/rustic feel). Great work!
(5 years and 3271 days ago)Agreed; this is a nice shot but the lack of focus is really apparent in the hi res. I'd try sharpening it a bit and see if that helps at all. Your framing is very nice, however, and your subject is indeed cute. All the best!
(5 years and 3271 days ago)"Are you clucking at me? Are YOU clucking at ME?!"
(5 years and 3271 days ago)Great capture, author! Definitely tells a story and draws the viewer in. All the best!
Your DOF is pretty much perfect and the lighting really gives this scene a cinematic quality. Love it!
(5 years and 3271 days ago)I'm loving the way you framed this (it reminds me of an album cover for some reason)! The dark background also helps to separate it from the lightness of the horse's head. The flash, however, seems to have made the head flat and somewhat washed out/dimensionless. Did you use an onboard flash or did you bounce it off of something? If you shoot something like this in the future try using a reflector (or even a large sheet of foil) to get some light in from the side. This will help to create depth and give interesting shadows to your subject's face. Overall though very nice job! All the best!
(5 years and 3271 days ago)Although I'm not seeing anything blown out in the cow I do have to admit it is a bit dark. Probably has to do with the lighting when you shot this. I'd either add some fill light (which may or may not have a negative effect on the rest of the image) or see how it looks in black and white (the darkness of the cow compared to the midtones/lights of the background might make it work FOR you instead of AGAINST you). Hope that helps. All the best!
(5 years and 3271 days ago)Fantastic shot, author. Your DOF and the clarity of your shot are top notch. I didn't even notice that little fly in the horse's eye until I viewed the hi res. The only nitpicky critique I can give is to possibly saturate your blues a bit more so the sky looks brighter and cheerier (thats entirely a personal taste issue though; either way is neither right nor wrong). All the best!
(5 years and 3271 days ago)The sepia tone works PERFECTLY for what you were going for. I LOVE this shot! And yes, the sheet music was a brilliant touch that really helps this stand out. All the best!
(5 years and 3271 days ago)Anyone who looks at my work knows I favor Black and White for close up or macro shots. This, however, is an example where the color pretty much makes the picture. The age of the wood and the uniqueness of the grain would be somewhat lost if we didn't have color. So GREAT work, as always, author! All the best!
(5 years and 3271 days ago)Excellent shot, author! Shooting a sax can be tough work (I know) and you pulled it off very nicely. In the future I'd add a bit of fill light though so we can see the instrument a bit better. Still, awesome job! All the best!
(5 years and 3271 days ago)I love the contrast in this photograph and the angle gives it a very nostalgic/creepy feel. There seems to be a little too much negative space on the left hand side though; with the wheel in the position that it is in, however, I can understand why its cropped that way. Long story short, I really dig this one! Great work!
(5 years and 3273 days ago)Author, you can edit this entry in order to submit the hi res. In your toolbar click on "My Stuff", then "My Contest Entries." From here you can edit your entry and re-upload your photo as a hi res. Hope this helps!
(5 years and 3275 days ago)I honestly love the ladder in the shot. It gives this a sense of scale that would otherwise be lost. Great find, author!
(5 years and 3275 days ago)Definitely a great find! I'd crop it in a bit on the right and MAYBE bump up the saturation/contrast. Still, this one made me smile.
All the best!
(5 years and 3275 days ago)Definitely creative! If only artists around here had enough drive to paint those ugly gray boxes.
(5 years and 3275 days ago)Excellent advice, rbsgrl. I would also bump up the contrast/saturation on this as the image is looking a bit washed out. I'm loving the angle and the background scenery, though!
(5 years and 3275 days ago)Shooting against a solid color works well for this piece. You do have some pretty harsh noise going on, though. I'd run it through a filter to correct this and resubmit. As it stands though this is a very nice piece that gets respect from me.
All the best!
(5 years and 3275 days ago)You normally use dof to bring focus to something you want the viewer to see (or even what you DON'T want the viewer to see). There are, however, exceptions to the rule that can yield outstanding results. This is one of them. Sometimes you just have to throw judgment and theory out the window and just "shoot what looks cool." So great work, author!
(5 years and 3275 days ago)The golden hue of the instrument against the magenta backdrop/lighting works better than I would have imagined! This is an excellent shot, author, and the addition of the net gives it a very nautical theme that conjures up all sorts of imagery. All the best!
(5 years and 3275 days ago)I love the angle and the colors but I think the instrument itself is somewhat washed out. Not terribly, but I'd up the shadows a smidge just the same. Still, I'm digging the subject and the addition of the sheet music is a GREAT touch.
All the best!
(5 years and 3275 days ago)I see your point, author, and I think it works well.
(5 years and 3275 days ago)In the future though you may want to describe such things in the picture's description. It isn't required (unless specifically stated in the contest guidelines) but may help you get a better score from members who would be otherwise confused as to your meaning. All the best!
Definitely like the creativity in this one, although I would have framed it in a bit tighter. Still, great job author!
(5 years and 3275 days ago)Agreed, this is a very well put together scene and quite different from most of the other entries we've been seeing. Excellent work!
(5 years and 3275 days ago)Great advice, friiskiwi. While not always the case, upload a high res DOES increase your chances of getting a higher vote from some users. Trialboj has a good idea as well; that splotchy green backdrop looks like its stained with something.
Hope this helps! All the best!
(5 years and 3276 days ago)Fantastic clarity and I love the golden cast you gave this. Very nice work!
(5 years and 3280 days ago)This is an amazing shot IMO. You got your lighting pretty much perfect and the staging of your props really hammers home the idea you're going for (and I love how the chair is not QUITE dead center but close enough to draw interest). Great work, author!
(5 years and 3280 days ago)Thanks, friiskiwi.
Your comments are very informative as well IMO. I'm at the tail end of my Bachelors program so lots of this design/visual aesthetic stuff is still fresh in my mind. Over the years that'll probably change.
(5 years and 3281 days ago)And I agree with MnMCarta's agreeing with Friiskiwi's agreeing. Agreed? :P
I'd add a little more fill light to this but otherwise its a bangup job!
(5 years and 3281 days ago)Love the subject matter for this picture. It does what I feel is probably one of the most important aspects of photography...it tells a STORY. I wanna know who this person is, why they are apparently washing their hair in public, and what they have in the bag on the bench. Great work, author! (although I WOULD like to see this in black and white...but thats just personal preference
)
(5 years and 3281 days ago)Terrific subject and the curving really works for this one. Keeping a bluish/green color scheme really helps to drive home the dreamy quality of the photo. Awesome job, author!
(5 years and 3281 days ago)Scratching or not, this is a nice looking photo with great DOF. Plus the expression on his face is priceless.
Great job, author!
(5 years and 3281 days ago)Instantly reminded me of the movie poster. If only Wilson was here... :P
(5 years and 3281 days ago)Great work, author! And kudos for doing they eyes "the legal way."
Nice, vibrant color in this one and great framing. I am legitimately hungry now. Great job!
(5 years and 3282 days ago)I just noticed that you used cotton for the "smoke" coming from Godzilla's mouth. That...is awesome. Classic craftiness at its best. Excellent creativity and great shot, author.
(5 years and 3282 days ago)Definitely a neat looking pattern. Where did you take this?
(5 years and 3282 days ago)Actually made me lol.
I can hear Jeff Goldblum's voice already..."Faster, faster, must go faster..."
(5 years and 3282 days ago)Love the concept and the picture is crystal clear. I'd add a tiny bit of fill light to it though so that your face doesn't look so underexposed. As it stands, though, this is great. All the best!
(5 years and 3282 days ago)Angle, lighting, depth of field...all pretty much perfect. Can't think of a thing I would change. Great work!
(5 years and 3283 days ago)I agree with friiskiwi that a higher Depth of Field would punch this picture up a notch. As it stands though your colors are excellent and your framing is quite nice (a little tight but not TOO tight). And, perhaps most importantly, it made me hungry.
All the best!
(5 years and 3283 days ago)Oh, the temptation! Great looking shot (literally) and excellent DOF. Only critique I'd say is to try it as a high key shot against a pure white backdrop. That's just nitpicking though; this is a great looking image. All the best!
(5 years and 3283 days ago)Shots like this can be hard to accomplish because the tones/shades tend to blend everything together. You, however, pulled it off beautifully. The added rough texture of the tree juxtaposed with the smoothness of the chair really helps as well. Top it off with an interesting subjecting matter and nice framing and you've got yourself a great shot. All the best!
(5 years and 3283 days ago)Loving the orange and blue color scheme you've got going on. I'm curious; was this shot at night or during the day? All the best!
(5 years and 3283 days ago)Great job, author! Only thing I'd change is to rotate the picture slightly so that the fence on the bottom lays on a flat plane (right now it looks like it is on a slight angle). All the best!
(5 years and 3284 days ago)Guess she doesn't like the "ogre-tainment". :P Fun capture! As far as being on topic goes I could see it either way. I guess we will have to wait for the mods to decide. All the best!
(5 years and 3284 days ago)Nice capture but there appears to be a pretty harsh yellow cast on it (probably due to the walls). I'd adjust the color a bit and resubmit. Hope this helps! Good luck!
