Congrats.
(5 years and 551 days ago)Congrats!
(5 years and 551 days ago)Achhhh this is just good. I love the story, and black and white was the way to go.
(5 years and 553 days ago)Y'know, I think those chairs were white, were they not? But they appear gray on this upload. Was your exposure well calibrated? This is a tricky image because if you overexposure you run the risk of blow outs....ahhh challenges, always fun with photography.
(5 years and 553 days ago)Hmmm 'colours are everywhere'. The low POV is nice but the upper part of the photograph is screaming for attention....and getting it.
(5 years and 553 days ago)Nicely seen this one. I feel it could use a touch more of exposure as it is "dirty gray". It is a steady photograph, well balanced and we can see you thought about it when shooting it...it's not happy snappy.
(5 years and 553 days ago)This has to be Dubrovnik or somewhere in ancient Europe! A rather cliche photograph but it works. I especially am drawn to the textured walls and to change this to black and white just made it better. I also like the blurred top for that diffusion makes us feel like we are witness to something special. See those footprints in the cement? ohhhh that is great to add mystery. In my photoclub, I would get chastised for saying something is cliche, but most members agreed that there is nothing wrong with cliche, except it's been done before and it is boring. I know you just really wanted to know all this....ha!
(5 years and 553 days ago)Have you noticed that the horizon line dips to the right....and soon the ocean will be on my keyboard? If you are trying to highlight the shadows (as your title indicates) a closer down crop would have made for a stronger shot. I love the patterns cast by the shadows.
(5 years and 553 days ago)Your point of view helps us to focus on the chairs primarily and secondary focal anchor point is that distant island. Nice straight horizon line and not overexposed even tho this was shot during peak sun hours.
(5 years and 555 days ago)I like the way the blue pops play off each other making for a pleasing photograph to view. You could have cropped a touch of the left side to remove that cement brown peeking in...but that is neither here nor there. This has a nice exotic touch to it, the only thing missing is the moussaka.
(5 years and 555 days ago)Well seen and well shot.
(5 years and 559 days ago)Nice one, should do well.
(5 years and 559 days ago)Good upload, he really is absorbed into this work and we can see that clearly.
(5 years and 570 days ago)It would be a better photo if they were actually doing something instead of standing around.
(5 years and 570 days ago)Why did you nip off his feet....I know, you were channeling HC BRESSON!
(5 years and 570 days ago)Nicely composed snap.
(5 years and 570 days ago)Nicely framed, good gray zone tonality, and good composition. I like this one and didn't even have to view it in high res!
(5 years and 570 days ago)Viewed in high resolution the gray bias is really strong. In b/w photography you do need black and you do need white that is why it is called black and white photography. This sure does look ancient tho'.
(5 years and 570 days ago)Viewed in high resolution this looks much much better. I think the composition is a touch too tight but most likely there is a good reason for this.
(5 years and 570 days ago)I like the colour palette with this upload. Are there more derelict vans behind the trees...it does tease the eye?
(5 years and 570 days ago)Lovely, they were kind enough to pose for you, you old goat you! Sprintime flavour here.
(5 years and 573 days ago)I see, yes, I like this one, posed and all....cuppa tea.
(5 years and 573 days ago)Hi, this doesn't look posed but spontaneous. I think the contest asks that the portrait be posed. Nevertheless, I like this shot and especially that gentleman is giving the gal a bit of a joke it seems. Why not in colour? I know it's artistic prerogative but I think, to my eyes, it would have been a more exciting photo with colour....but that is just me.
(5 years and 582 days ago)I like the way you composed this including that long long strip of sand leading our eyes to the hotel. At our Photo Club, one of our members took a similar photo of a beach property and sold it to the hotel for 800 USD, copyright and all. Just a suggestion! It could use a touch more saturation to make it sparkle and the horizon line is dipping to the right.
(5 years and 584 days ago)Coming from Canada I know this scene and it does spell paradise for snowbirds and for others who suffer through lousy weather in their home country. Nicely composed.
(5 years and 584 days ago)I thought this would have done much better Brian. It's really quite lovely.
(5 years and 584 days ago)Have you been smokin whacky tabacky....great outta the box thinking here!
(5 years and 587 days ago)Good one, we get the feeling that this is a performance and I like it in monochrome.
(5 years and 588 days ago)
(5 years and 591 days ago)Are we going to see 4 canoes behind this handsome fellow. I really love the colour palette on this great shot. Sharp and clear a solid macro entry.
I have a feeling I may know the singer on the left. Is she from PEI? Nicely caught, a very prominent gray bias, have you tried to push the exposure lever a touch more?
(5 years and 592 days ago)Congrats Brian
(5 years and 592 days ago)Hi sweetie and congrats to you!
(5 years and 593 days ago)A well done stop action shot, frozen. You have this cropped tightly and that is your choice to highlight the colour orange and it works. I feel it may have had more visual punch had you given "room" for this speedboat to speed into , it would have made it a more dramatic photograph, and if you are who I think you are then I know you know this already, but if you are not who I think you are then forgive me.
(5 years and 597 days ago)A fun entry and this is one classy duck with her bellybutton showing and a fancy skirt. It is an orange entry and fits the criteria showing sharpness on the eyes (where it's supposed to fall) . Cute and did you create this?
(5 years and 597 days ago)I like the close tight crop and no it does not bother me that some of the leaves have been nipped as this crop keeps us in on your image. It looks to me like this was taken during high contrast time, afternoon sharp light and you DID NOT blow out the whites, looks like you understand exposure settings and you and your camera have become best friends. I wonder if you had cropped down a bit more, yes you would have nipped off even more leaves but would have eliminated the bars....hmmmm artistic decision I know....I bow to yours.
(5 years and 597 days ago)Yes, this is orange and fits the criteria for the contest! As a photograph it doesn't somehow transmit excitement and feels "happy snappy shot". We do not know what those fellas are doing and the amputation of the boat makes me curious as to how long it is...a mystery. It feels incomplete. However, from a technical standpoint you have nailed it. The image is sharp and that is a feat because the boat is moving and you have the exact shutter speed to freeze this nicely, furthermore the colours are natural and your contrast is well done as well showing good dynamic tones within the image.
(5 years and 597 days ago)The textural quality is really great and you knew that and knew it would work beautifully in monochrome. A nice presentation and looks exotic , from Greece perhaps.
(5 years and 598 days ago)Nice Brian a good shot. Congrats.
(5 years and 599 days ago)Congrats Brian
(5 years and 599 days ago)Ahhhh so this one was yours. Good one, liked it.
(5 years and 601 days ago)Good eye there....like this one a lot.
(5 years and 601 days ago)Good catch, nice grid composition style.
(5 years and 601 days ago)Yes, thumbs up....wastin time for sure.
(5 years and 601 days ago)Nicely composed there , gray bias , good focus.
(5 years and 601 days ago)Nice one there....top marks.
(5 years and 601 days ago)What has caught my eye is the glow coming from within this building that is chock a block full of triangles. Good crop, balanced image, sharp and your sky has not even one dust spot.....KUDOS!
(5 years and 603 days ago)Wow you spotted these and shot them...good eye! I have been looking everywhere for triangles and driving myself to drink. This evening shot with long shadows cast is sharp and well composed. The horizon is dead straight, ....a solid entry.
(5 years and 603 days ago)One is drawn to this monochrome photograph. You have good contrast, shape and texture showing and that is a plus for monochromatic shots. There is good tonal contrast also...black to white and much in between. Furthermore, there is a nice quality of light here, meaning it is soft and diffused but the patterns and texture of water easily picked up.
(5 years and 604 days ago)Nice stop action and sharp image, yes the triangle is the main focus!
(5 years and 604 days ago)I just looked at this again and your dof is smack on the money....those handsome Scots are all sharp, well exposed. Nice
