i agree about the shadows, they are really harsh, just blur it by a few pixels and tone the opacity down a little, the rest of the image looks good though!

The key is for this image to be pleasing to the eye.. realism is also important, but the difference between using a black background and a black background with a few white dots in it isn;t very much, so you may want to give it a go.
