Shadows for legs are a little off and would have been nicer to see more of the bird.

You don't take up enough of the page with this composition, and the lights and darks seem to contrast too much with no gradient in between. Also the shadows are lacking.

Crane is way too big...

Yeap, like waz said make the crane sharper, add the crane's head in the picture, add the fish head from the other contest into it's beak and you got yourself an entry! Nice idea. What I dont get, the crane in the original looks way sharper than in this entry. There's no way to make the bird sharper again? Also, compare the shadows from the source pic to the shadows that you made for the crane. In the source it's more greenish, perhaps you'd like to adjust that. Good luck!
