A polarizing filter, used both in color and black and white photography, filters out light polarized perpendicularly to the axis of the filter. This has three applications in photography: it reduces reflections from some surfaces, it can darken the sky and it saturates the image more by eliminating unwanted reflections.

I think the light is fine, it's a necessary evil.

This is a great shot. I love the lighting on the oil and the bottle. One small critisism is that I find the streak of light on the pepper mill a little distracting

Very nice -- focus on the leaves with the blur background is a very nice effect

nice, but it'd be good if you could actually see the ball or him kicking it.

The focus is great on the snout and the teeth, where I feel the focus should be.

Looks like the focus wasn't completely on the skull.

It is really beautiful! Only suggestion I have is to run this through a noise reduction thing to clean up some of the grainy background but other than that I love the DOF on this
