Texturing a Scene - 3ds-max Tutorial

This tutorial will show you how to texture a whole scene. We will try to do a simple texturing job on a complex scene (lots of objects). The whole texturing is going to be done only in 3D Studio MAX, but it will work in other packages with their respective tools just as well.

The Sculpture - 3ds-max Tutorial

The scene consists of four essential components: the stairs and balcony, the sculpture, the illumination and finally the complex texturing.
You will see how Dirt Maps can increase the realism in your scenes as you go through this tutorial. Let's jump right into texturing the scene then, shall we?

Venetian AfternoonVenetian Afternoon - 3ds-max Tutorial

The modeling for this scene is pretty simple. All objects were created from boxes, extruded splines and lofts. The most important thing is to give at least a slight bevel to all sharp corners. Nothing in reality is perfectly sharp so your models shouldn't be either. If your not animating, then some of this can be done in post, which we'll get more into later on in this overview.

Desert Life - 3ds-max Tutorial

A big welcome to everyone reading this little overview about the making of "Desert Life".
Ok, we're going to write about how we did this picture, from scratch to finish. We are not going into big details, rather we'll try to explain the procedures and techniques.

The Making of the Boulevard - 3ds-max Tutorial

Hi folks.
We're gonna explain to you, through this tutorial, how we created "Boulevard". We will focus specially in the texturing part but in addition we'll refer to the whole scene creation process. We won't repeat some concepts you must have read in other tutorials. The idea is that we will show you the way we face a project, and tell you about the way we turn ideas into reality.

Stay Awhile - 3ds-max Tutorial

When making a realistic environment we must look at the world around us and figure out how the environment works. What are the things that make a space look unique? How does the weather affect the way the texture will be preserved? There are many ways we can make scenes look like photos, the key is to have an eye for detail. Remember, that most insignificant thing, which you may not even notice, will make or break the picture. Details are important, so take the time to make them.

Lighting is one of the things that most get wrong. I find that looking at real world photography is the best way to capture the lighting just right. Don't try to wing it or make it they way you think it should look, get it right or you might as well quit now.

In this tutorial we will learn how to texture a scene and make the lighting work. The first step is to get the scene modeled and looking just right. For times sake we will use a very simple scene of an abandoned room.

Anhells - 3ds-max Tutorial

In this tutorial we will talk about some of the processes we have used in the creation of Anhells. We will not go in deep for every aspect of the image, so we're assuming you have a good knowledge of your favourite 2D/3D software. We used 3dsmax, photoshop and combustion as the main programs. Mental Ray and Vray are my rendering engines for almost every project. We like both two, so we use both.

Human Skin - The Mental Ray Subsurface Scattering Fast Skin Shader - 3ds-max Tutorial

Subsurface scattering is light passing through and diffusing within a thin translucent material. Human skin is an example of such a material as it is made up of many thin translucent layers. A Subsurface Scattering material is ideal for re-creating skin in 3D computer graphics and is why the Mental Ray Subsurface Scattering Fast Skin shader was specifically created.
